Chemical warfare strikes Mercedes

This 500SEL came to us because someone had sprayed something on the single stage paint, and damaged it severely. Luckily this single stage polished out pretty quickly. I used my nastiest, oldest orange CCS pad with SIP, then finished with Super Finish. Collinite 915 was LSP used, hopefully it will keep this car protected for a while. As you can see, the finish was not in good shape, there were a couple of bad spot repairs on the hood, and years of wear and tear. I took some before and after gloss measurements, and on the hood it barely could even take a measurement. Thanks for looking.

Here are a few more pics. As you can see the gloss measurement spiked up dramatically.

Finished product. This car will never be a show winner, but still quite the dramatic change.

WOW John that car was beaten down and then flogged again. You restored a fair amount of value to that car, mostlikely more than they paid to have you do the work.

I like the gloss meter, tell us about it.

Cheers,

GREG

Thanks Greg. I just got the gloss meter, and it actually measures gloss at 3 angles 20 degrees, 65 degrees, and 85 degrees. I will try to use it this week, and do a write-up with 9 different waxes, and give gloss measurements for each one. Should be a fun experiment.

Just a slight difference!

Wow, great work!

Sometimes single stage is easier to work with than BCCC.

Very nice! :up

Wow, nice work, John! That older Merc SS isn't an easy one to work with!

Thanks Jesse, it was definitely an interesting project.

I just picked up a nice magnifing scope. It hooks up threw a usb to a pc, or in my case a laptop. It comes with a program that records live video. Its some cool shiiit. It was cheap! Googling the gloss meter now.

Yeah, I've been looking at a USB microscope. Is it actually usefull in your detailing arsenal? I saw Paul Dalton using one in his new video, but I don't quite understand how that translates to a better paint inspection?

I have been playing with it. Better paint inspection? noooooooooo, but when a customer seen the before video and the after video magnified yes it was priceless. I bought a real cheap one just to try before I drop a few bucks on a higher dollar one. I'll shoot you a link in pm.
