Chemical Guys quick reviews

It would seem to me that CG's is really shooting themsleves in the foot by selling to the end user. That is if they are really trying to private label for some people. Most places do one or the other, or at least have a huge minimum order. Take sprayway for instance, they will private label for you, but in order to buy direct an idividual would have to buy like 50 cases.

Why would anyone want to be a ditributor for CG's if an idividual can purchase directly through the manufacturer?

Oh well, it is good for us...I guess.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. Why goto the hassle to sell 200 bucks worth to me, when you can sell 20,000 worth to Poorboy's World :).

As for the Warner/CG's connection, its a bit murky. CG's sells some Warner products, as well as products of their own invention. Sounds like how nearly all detailing chemical companies work, with some products made in-house, and some shipped in from elsewhere. However, and I respect this greatly, CG's does not rebottle the Warner stuff. Some of my products came Warner labeled, and I know I could buy them direct from Warner even more cheaply, but I ordered them from CG's out of convenience.

I don't have any experience with their polishes, but J.J. bought a gallon of their medium cut. PM him to find out, he said it was pretty good, but he didn't have anything except for SSR2 to compare it to. As for their sealants and waxes, I've heard great things about the butter wet wax. And the paste wax looks kind of like one that starts with a N and ends with ATTY's, but it's not much cheaper. Next time I order from them, I'll probably pick up some LSP. I'm all set for polishes though, IMHO, Menzerna is a year ahead of anyone else on the market, including CG. Although, at 20 bucks a gallon, its tough to beat their prices (PO85 is 5 times that).

Hydrofluoric acid is not a "weak" acid. It happens to be one of the more insidious ones because it can be painless at point of entry and continue until if finds some calcium (your bones) to neutralize it. It's also one of the few acids that can't be stored in glass.

A side note on HF acid: It enters painlessly, but does not remain so. This stuff is more than dangerous, it can be lethal ! Especially if it gets absorbed into the thoractic region. It causes cells along the absorption path to the bones to become first irritated, Cellulitis) then kills them (necrosis ). Long ago I had about 3 drops of concentrated HF drip onto a fingernail and seem to evaporate. It felt slightly warm and my fingertip tingled. In about an hour I was in excruciating pain that could not be relieved by anything except a nerve block ! I lost a finger tip. I wont go into any further details except to warn you guys about this stuff....:soscared:

Thanks for the quick review! So...the big question I have is: What about their polishes/paint products?

I have a gallon of their Extreme Top-coat Sealant sitting in my carport right now. My next three days have 3 fulls and one exterior so I hope to post intitial findings as soon as I have some.

I too, have a gallon of the Extreme Top Coat Sealant w/ 3x Carnauba waiting for me. Truth is, I'm so happy with the Butter Wet Wax that I haven't opened the sealant yet. The Butter Wet Wax looks amazing on my black Tacoma. Deep, Wet, crisp, reflective gloss. The metalics pop nicely. My initial impression was that it was off the charts. When applied thin, it's very easy to use. Apply it too thick & removal is similar to when you apply Meg's #26 to thick. ( a bit of a workout by hand ) The BWW seems to sheet water rather than bead. The durability factor seems a bit on the low side IMO. (Once again, durability for me isn't an issue because I wax atleast once every 2 weeks. Lately I've been waxing once a week.) When I first got the BWW I let 1 coat go for about 3 weeks with my normal once a week washings. ( by hand ofcourse using WG AutoBathe ) At that time it looked as though the rain had started to erode the wax a bit. My best guesstimate would be 3-4 weeks of durability on a daily driver that's not a garage queen. Apply a coat every 2 weeks & your paint will look amazing. QD with some Crystal Mist and let the drooling begin.

Any word on their waterless wash + quick detail stuff? Has someone tested its limits on dirty paint? A gallon at around $23 is a steal, especially when you can dilute it 2:1.

Now only if CG made something like QEW..I'd be set!

Detail Spray (pink stuff): Smells great, sun friendly, dirt cheap. My new goto DS, at half the price of most detail sprays. I still keep a little Spray + Gloss around for shows, etc, but this is my favorite all around spray. Its a pretty solid clay lube too.

I still have 3 gallons of S&W. When buying S&W, I think it is still a better deal to buy 5 gallons from Steve than gallons of WW from CG -- assuming they compare in quality. I won't be testing any CGs Waterless Wash for a while and I don't remember any reviews yet. *Edit: here is the review. . . 'at the top of the product forum :) http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57306

I have pushed the waterless wash to the limit and it has performed very well.

I drove through some rain and had a bottle of http://chemicalguys.com/Merchant2/m...PCWCCP&Product_Code=WAC_114&Category_Code=WAC

that i had cut 50% distilled water to there product. It cleaned very well and had enough lube in it to lift the dirt. I felt very comfortable using it in this fashion, just like I have to QEW.

Hope that helps you out.
