Chemical Guys clay = Sonus Block clay

I suppose the marring is easily corrected using a polish like PO106FF? Was planning on polishing the entire vehicle after claying anyways...

Can't say if the PO106FF will do it as I used something stronger, but it wouldn't surprise me.

budman3- Guess we just see it differently. I have other clays that don't mar, but most of them aren't as effective as the current Sonus gray. The Block v1.0/SmartWax/KEL clay was perfect IMO, but it's discontinued and apparently gone forever. Why they don't still make it I can't say :nixweiss but I can only assume there's a good financial reason; if it were profitable I expect they'd still be selling it, it's all about making money off a product (as IMO it should be).

Comparing it to other clays it is, IMO obviously. If a company is going to own a patent on clay they should atleast make something that works well and doesn't marr. It's not like they don't have enough money... Clay that tears, marrs and very hard I would consider poor quality and from my experiences, this is what the grey clay is. I won't pay $20 for a 200g bar unless the formula changes so it doesn't marr and kneads well.

For a clay that sucks this bad it's amazing how many 100's of 1000's of people love using it and keep buying it? I've clayed 1000's of vehicles with Blue Clay Magic and I can't imagine another sytle of clay being significantly(if that) better? I've never experienced Blue Clay Magic tearing, marring or being hard to kneed? Have you every tried the Blue Clay Magic. That's the grade/formulation the manufacturer promotes.

Not to mention the obvious, but he's talking about the GRAY clay, not blue. :doh

How does gray compare to the blue? Keep in mind that just because Auto Wax makes several non-Clay Magic clays for *competitors*, it's not the formulation they promote. It's the formulation their customer requests. People therefore shouldn't have negative opinions on Auto Magic, but the company supplying it the the end user. Their just giving their *competition* what they want.

It's because they have no choice....

I wouldn't say Automagic has any competitors .... they have been putting the rest of the clay manufacturer's out of business by suing them for patent infringement. This topic has been beaten to death but below are some good articles for others to read what's been going on. I know that I'm not alone saying that the grey clay, manufactured by Auto Magic, for other companies, isn't the best clay that has been on the market. I can agree that CM blue is a tad better than the grey clay but I still don't like it. That's my personal opinion from my personal experiences.

David- Have you tried the yellow Erazer clay (not manufactured by Auto Magic) before? If haven't then you truely can't understand my displeasure of the AM stuff... if you have ... how did you like it compared to CM blue?

Yes they do, people can buy Clay Magic.. People use less expensive, inferior, made to order clay that AM produces and find that it performance is poor and then blame AM. They should blame the distributors they buy it from for ordering poor specifications. Another thing that happens is that people read car care forums that all clay is made from AW and think that all AW clay is bad. When in fact it's not (Clay Magic). But they get the *black eye*

Can you blame them? The courts haven't awarded Auto Wax almost $10 million for nothing? Wouldn't you do the same thing if you had a patent?

I totally agree, but it's not Auto Magic's fault. But, somehow their name gets dragged through the mud every time someone doesn't like a strain of their best clay(Clay Magic).

I can agree that CM blue is a tad better than the grey clay but I still don't like it. That's my personal opinion from my personal experiences.

You have a right to your opinion based on your level of personal experience. You are definately in the *minority* of professional detailers to say that it's not a good product.

Truely I don't have a need to try any other clay besides Blue or Red Clay Magic. I've never had a single problem with it's performance and it always works better than expected. It(blue) doesn't marr, kneeds great, priced right and removes everything as expected from the surface without removing protection. I can't emagine a product being superior. And, I can imagine why someone would be that displeased with it. If you want me to test out your Erazer clay, send me a sample and I'll compare. I'll eat crow if your right. I can't wait to see what I've been missing out on for the last 15 years.
