Changing my business name...

I originally wrote a longer post explaining how I am big on having a professional image, etc. and why I wanted a fictitious name.

But, as I wrote the post I mentioned using something like "Avy's Mobile Detailing" and how it could look like a small "make some quick bucks and run" type of company. But, the more I thought about it, and as simple as that name is, it actually has a nice ring to it...not to mention it's very short, and it immediately describes what I do, etc.

What do you guys think about that name?

I feel like I owe you guys something with all the help you're giving! That's the reason why I've been a member for three years and counting!!!! :hifive:

Now your cooking with gas.

I don’t know if your a established Pro or a enthusiast with a mission to turn Pro?

If so, A.J. Barnes Detailing / A.J. Detailing could be productive and add a personal touch. . I would assume people know you by that name personally in your community. Don’t get carried away by all the fictitious names because, you and your service will make your name, not the reverse.

I would agree. If you've been doing business for three years under this name, you've obviously built an awareness and reputation as well. People know you by this name and trust you by this name.

My father once owned a lawncare/landscape business. It was very recognized and trusted within the community. When he sold it, the new owner kept the business name but changed the look of the logo and company colors. It took my father years to achieve his well recognized status with the business, and it took the new owner very little time to throw this brand awareness away. Point being, by changing your name and image, you may put doubt in the minds of the community and those who have come to trust, "A.J Barnes Auto Detailing". They may make their own conclusions as to what happened with your business...old business went under, must be under new management, why did the business change names, ect. Brand awareness takes a long time to build. Just something to keep in mind before making the change. Just my 2 cents.

Best Regards,

Matt Williams

I see where you're coming from. But my company has not grown massively to the point that I can't even change a company color or something. My business is still relatively small and unknown with the facts that I started off very slow for the first 2 years, I also didn't do alot of advertising and promoting, so destroying my brand would not be in question. I also received 80-90% of my business from repeat business and referrals. All of my current customers will be aware that my name is changing. The biggest reason for wanting change is that my current name is A.J. Barnes Automotive - that can be confusing to people, etc. I originally came up with that name because I thought I would have been implementing alot of other auto care related services which I haven't and more than likely will not.

Now, the name I want with the aide of my good ol' buddies here on Autopia is Avy's Mobile Detailing. I checked with about 10 family members', friends, current customer's, etc. today about what they thought of the name and they all love it. The most popular comment is that it is professional, short, and is very descriptive. :2thumbs:

Thank you all for your comments, advice, etc. With your help, I have decided to go with Avy's Mobile Detailing. Now comes the fun part....making all the changes! :bawling:

But, before I do that, I'm going shopping for some detailing supplies!!! :getdown

Awesome AJ I like that!

It's funny because I was throwing around names that I would use when I start doing side jobs just because I want something to known by. I kept coming back to only using my name or a nickname as well.

Good choice with the new name! Take it easy.

Good choice. I used my name in my detailing business to convey a personal touch and I think it helps. Your new business name leaves no doubt as to what you do. :)

I'm looking into changing my business name. My current name is A.J. Barnes Automotive but I wanted something more catchy, memorable, etc. I came up with a few names but I would like to get your guys opinion, and if you can think of something better. Thanks! :wavey

1. New Age Mobile Detailing

2. Detailz Xtreme

3. Accurate Auto Care

4. Progressive Mobile Detailing

5. Auto Star Mobile Detailing

6. Picture Perfect Mobile Detailing

Whatcha think?? :nixweiss

I was thinking of starting a detailing business several years ago, but did not. I will continue to keep it a hobby. Anyhow, I came up with a name and logo. Check it out. If you want it or anybody else I will send the logo (hi res file) to you and you can use it (No Charge). I would be very happy for someone to get some use out it, I think it is kinda cool. Just a note I created the logo myself, as for the name I guess you would have to check to make sure it is not registered in your area.

By the way, I have lurked here for a great while and cannot thank you all enough for all the great info. I guess this is my way of saying thanks and giving back.

I think your original name is best A.J. Barnes. It was chracter. IT also sounds like a bigger company. Also you put your name behind your products and services. If you put your name on it. It must be good. Aswell in an indusrty full of those "trendy" names, why not stand out. The unfortunate thing about "trendy" names is they are everywhere. Almost to the point where they get over used. Look at Companys like Foose Design, Boyd Wheels, Bell Telephone. When someone on the net does a search for Absolute Car Care look at the results. Now do one on A.J. Barnes and you'll be the only one. Just my opion, hope it helps out.

I have already chosen Avy's Mobile Detailing. It already has been registered, and I'm currently working on the logo (as you can see, I don't waste time..... :rofl ).

Thanks again guys for the ideas and advice!!
