CH.Detailed - 1985 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet

CH.Detailing

What's a detail?
Up on the chopping block, a 1985 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet, black on black. Car got picked up by a local restoration shop after being repossessed by the bank. New paint on the nose and lower panels, fresh stoneguard application, refinished wheels, and new upholstery where necessary make this car fantastic aesthetically.

The car started off very clean, which was fortunate because it was below freezing outside! There was only some light dust on the car, so I elected to do a rinseless wipe down from my sprayer. Clayed with Megs blue clay, although there was no contamination that was pulled up.

Measured the paint out of curiosity mostly, the shop says that most of the panels are original, but measurements were all over the board. With Italian cars I never expect the paint to be xxxxgenous anyways. Surprisingly the areas that were only recently repainted were the thinnest at ~15 mils!

Given the value on these cars, and that it will be going to auction before too long, only a 1-step polish was done. Flex rotary, Lake Country HydroTech Tangerine pads (3”, 4”, 5”, 6”), with Sonax Perfect Finish. Swirls got knocked down, RIDS were still plentiful, but gloss was greatly improved.

(Not pictured) The tires were cleaned up with Megs APC+ and Super Degreaser, scrubbed with a microfiber cloth to pull up the years of old dressing. Interior was cleaned with Blackfire Interior cleaner, leather with Leatherique Pristine Clean (simply because I have it and never use it), dressed with CarPro PERL at 5:1. Poorboy’s Leather Scent on the carpets after brushing/vacuuming.

The windows needed work and the wheels still needed to be refinished so that saved me some time by not needing to touch them!

Thanks for checking it out!

Pads were Lake Country HydroTech Tangerine of all sizes, I was running at speed 1.5 on the Flex which I think translates to ~1500 rpms?

The restoration shop. First time working with them, hopefully it pans out for more work. There was plenty of cool metal lounging around.
