Need help with center console on older car.The console is basically hard type of plastic.Its faded and worn.Is there any type of protectant to make it look better or do you have to paint it?If you have to paint it ,whats the best type and brand.Will the paint crack or peel after awhile.Thanks for any help or suggestions.

If it's really plastic, then try the various plastic polishes recommended here (Plexus, Novus, Zaino). I haven't had all that much experience with plastic, but other Autopians probably will have better ideas.

More likely than not you will need to re-finish the piece. In other words re-dye it.



There are several methods to doing this. Do an internet search on it.

Sometimes, it is also worth considering getting a new console. I would also try something like Plexus first. What car and year is it.

A lot of companies make replacement color coded aftermarket parts for older, especially American, cars. Thats probably the way to go.
