CD-2 Engine Detailer

*****************************************

Finally had a chance to apply some CD-2 to my engine bay and all I can say is this is a great product. I keep my engine bay relatively clean with water and a Target MF towel, but the application of CD-2 takes it to a new level. Found CD-2 at my local Auto-Zone.

I followed the directions and opted to buff off the extra shine (personal preference).

Wish I had some before pix, but I didn't have my camera with me so here are a couple post CD-2 shots. I have a 700+ mile round trip get-away scheduled soon so I'll update my post once that trek is completed to see how it holds up.

I had to buy another can today and noticed that at my local AutoZone the price went up to $6.29. I think it used to be around $5. Anyone else notice this?

One of the best and underrated products out there for engine details. One application will keep my engine bay nice and clean for a year, it does not attract dust accumulation like other Amour-All like products.

Too bad its not available in Canada, but I got a case from a member here to last me a while.

I'll offer an alternate POV. I've got a few cans of this stuff, have used it a couple of times over the past year or two. It DOES look awesome when first applied, but it seems to evaporate away after a brief period even when the car is not driven in the rain/weather. Maybe I'm not laying it down heavy enough?? It is good when it comes to dust attraction...no isssues there.

make sure the can is warm. used it earlier this spring when it was cold and the CD-2 came out in gloppy clumps. made a nice mess. Warmed up the can next time with a space heater and it sprayed nicely. I guess this should be a concern this time of year

What M car is that? Looks like a 4 banger, but the IDTB's throw me.

I thought an S14, but the hood looks like it opens from the front.

It's the E46 Chassis/S54 Engine (2005 M3 Coupe with 39,000 on it).

Do you spray teh CD-2 one everything in the bay?

I sprayed it on almost everything (plastics, rubbers, metals, painted metals, etc..). Per the directions, avoid directly spraying into the exposed areas of the alternator as well any other exposed wiring and the belts.

Follow up:

Just made it back from what turned out to be an 800+ mile road trip. It's not as shiny as when first applied and there is some minimal dust build up in a few spots, but overall it still looks great given 800 miles (including ~5 miles on a dirt road).

It didn't rain over the trip so I can't comment on how it holds up there. The pix below shows what it looked like right after I opened the hood after the trip, I didn't wipe anyting down. Some of the smudgings ....is that a word??..... (circled in red) are where the plastic engine bay parts come in contact with the hood insulation.

Your engine looks great. I saw this product today at Autozone, but the wife was with me so I'll have to wait until she's not around to buy it.

Yes, smudging is a word.

I've got a stainless air intake system in my truck. Does anyone know what could happen if the product comes into contact with it?

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to pick some of this up today.

Does the surface already need to be clean, or will it take care of that, too?

No you need to detail the engine bay first then dry good,it's not a cleaner/degreaser.
