But was anyone actually serious about that? I didn't see any serious suggestions

Although I realized that with the cold water thing, I'm not sure how cold it is in your area. Might not be too good of an idea if its too cold.



Also, is it possible you can find out who the owner is? I know some owners won't do anything about it (in which case I guess we have to take it in our own hands), but who knows, maybe an owner will actually step up to his/her responsibility?

First of all, I would NEVER shoot a cat with ANY kind of pellet gun, let alone a 1000 f/s rifle! You could SERIOUSLY hurt or even KILL a cat with that kind of gun! Bad themightytimmah :nomore:

Agreed! I don't know if I'd go as far as the car cover (too much effort each time), but definitely the blankets. AND, if your car is REALLY slick the cat and the covers may just slide off, giving kitty a (not-so) bad experience and maybe, just maybe, enough incentive to stay away! ;)
 
As long as the cat doesn't sit under the car and you don't see it :(



Although I'm sure they'd wake up... hopefully

Take the cat to a humane society a couple counties away. Then again the owner of the cat would probably just get another one. If you like dogs get one to play with the cat. :chuckle:

A dog has never walked on my vehicles, but cats have. This is one of the many reasons that I hate cats.
 
If you could catch the cat just before it jumps on the car, you could give it a blast with an air horn. In the summer I could see using a water gun, but in the weather we're having now, no way would I use water.

Since I love cats dearly, I'd just try to live with it. I'm not saying anyone else needs to, but personally I would. I always thought if an animal can't be contained, you don't need it. I've cleaned enough dog crap out of my yard to fertilize the whole thing and as big a pain as it is, I'd never hurt the neighbor's pets.
 
Maybe you can open the hood enough, say a 45 degree angle and lock it with a bicycle lock, so no one can open it past 45degrees (so they cant steal anything like your battery, etc). Then cut out hard plastic or something that you can line the sides with so the cat can't get into ur engine compartment. There is no way the cat can lay down on the hood now cuz its at an angle. And since you have a carport, and you will cover the small side openings, weather won't affect your car. And unplug your light under your hood so you don't drain your battery.
 
I've only had cat prints on my cars 3-4 times, but obviously that's 3-4 times too many. This last time he jumped on the hood the day after I used Eagle One Wax As U Dry, a fairly slick spray wax. Did nothing to deter him.



Chili powder seemed to work, but made a mess of my hood. Black pepper in front of where the car is parked doesn't look promising--the dumb@$* just walked right through it. Next time I'm shopping I'll buy mothballs in bulk. I've also placed Press 'n Seal on the hood--I've heard cats don't like sticky surfaces. However this will need to be removed every time the car goes out.



The kids have become really attached to the cat, and he's made a huge dent in the rodent population around the yard--he's a hunter and eats his prey. Just this one bad habit that needs to be controlled. Will try to keep you posted on my progress.
