Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning by GSRstilez

Jackal: You got it. The TV stuff. I used to use Shout OxyPower which performed BETTER, but it went off the market :(

Oxy does work great, but one word of warning:

DO NOT PUT OXYCLEAN/HOT WATER IN A SEALED CONTAINER UNTIL AFTER THE MIX IS FULLY DILUTED AND HAS A CHANCE TO "BREATHE!!!!!"

I found this out the hard way when my 1 gallon sprayed exploded from the pressure build up by the dissolving oxy...other than that...

After vacuuming up all the cleaning solution, as a rinse, I take a 3 gallon pump sprayer filled with hot water and a few ounces of fabric softener and wet down the area I just extracted. Let it dwell a few minutes, then vac it out. I find that it DOES make a difference in the feel of the fabric/carpet (a lot softer) and helps remove any remaining cleaner that could leave the carpets 'crunchy' with dried soap

LOL
glad i am not the only one that had a pressure build up with oxy clean, i had some rags soaking in a ice cream pail and added hot water and oxy and put the lid on, shortly the lid blew right off and landed on the counter, scared the crap out of me :LOLOL

That's a great write up! You should make a book! Don, I don't quite understand how that works, could you include a pic? A 3 Gallon pump sprayer? Sorry, still sorta a newbie

Do it Best Compressed Air Sprayer

3-1/2 gallon with 3 gallon operating capacity. Black polyethylene tank with 3-1/4" wide mouth on tank. Noncorrosive 10" polymer pump discharge valve, and Viton seals. 18" brass rotating wand and adjustable nozzle. 48" PVC hose. Has a filter in the spray wand and a flip-up handle. Automatic/manual pressure relief valve.

Here's a pic I liked.

On the right, the area was pretreated with Eimann Fabrik Spot Remover, then cleaned with the Oxy Mix. On the right, just vacuumed. BTW: that tar looking spot is heavily caked in bubble gum.

Did you use that same combo on the seats? If so, how long do you let it soak?
Yes, Let it sit 10 min or so is fine.

Sat, my wife, 2.5yr old are napping. My 10 month old and I are in the family room and he is in one of those Jolly Jumpers. As he's bouncing up and down and spinning....he projectile vomits a 3 foot radius.

So I whipped out the shop vac and I mixed up the Oxy solution and added a good dab of Woolite. So I figured while I had everything out, I did the kitchen chair seats (that came out amazing). Wife came down screaming...WTF are you doing? She shut up tho :beer after she saw the kitchen chairs :beer

Sorry, I did not even think about taking before afters of my house detail.....

I figured hey sounds good so i tried it today. Wow that really worked good with min. effort thanks for the tip. My be doing that more often to my interiors.

Dynamic Detailing :drunk

sean, nice article ,did you ever use enzyme cleaners? There a little pricey
but it's a good pre-spotter on soda,coffeeand blood. doesn,t work on grease
like all purpose cleaner.

all the best detail dave

detaildave: I have recently discovered a couple new products for this regimen.

I PM'd Dwayne about re-enabling the edit button for me but never got a response.

I am currently using Hi-Temp Protein Stain remover which makes a mockery of protein based stains. I mix it with an APC and pre-treat with 303 Spot Remover or Folex.

Thanks for the tip though :)

Wow, great use for Oxi-clean!! I promise, I will NEVER rip on that oxi-clean guy again after reading this thread. A++ My friend!!!

Instead of having an arsenal of spot removers, try using Goop Hand Cleaner. Yes, the stuff my dad used after working on a grimy engine to clean his hands. This stuff is super cheap-- ~$1 for a 14 oz. can at Walmart. Apply the Goop to the dry stain and work it in. The longer you leave it the better it works. Then rinse with water or launder as usual. It will remove ink, tar, blood, grease, you name it... It is also the best stain remover for clothes and makes Shout and other pretreatments seem like over-priced sissies. It's available in much larger quantities too for the overly messy folks out there.

I can't say enough good things about it and no I don't work for the company that makes it. I saw this tip on a PBS fund drive show and believe me it works. My wife hand a brand new pair of slacks that she left a tube of chapstick in the pocket. They went thru the dryer and then she discovered the baked in greasy stains all over her new pants. We figured we would give the Goop a shot and it removed all the spots and saved the day.

Interesting. Does is every cause any bleach spots? I may give it a run on some areas I don't really care too much about before using it exclusively, but thanks for the heads up.

Sean,
Where do you get Hi-Temp Protein Stain Remover? Is it really good at getting protein stains? I have been looking for a new stain remover.

Thanks,
Matt
