Carpet Problem - Customer

I already have deleted her off my list and I think the carpet looked great after we extracted the carpet again. I wish my carpet looked that good.

i have the same car as your client (mercedes C-class) and recently did the exact same thing to my carpets. They look identicle, sort of like that are thinning out .

I believe i was overly aggresive with my brushing of the carpets that caused that to happen, but seeing that you have the same issue, perhaps it is the carpet itself.

If you are able to fix them pls. leave your technique here so i can do it to my car too.

Did you ever think about contacting your local MB service center to see if they had any problems with that year and model carpets . After the above post with the same problem it could be a manufactures defect .

I've noticed it as well, even with the newer ones, the carpet seems to mat down slightly and won't come back up. It seems to happen to heavily soiled areas that need aggitation to remove the stains. No one has every complained about it though. :nixweiss

Well, most people do not get %^*)() for a client. I have never had a problem either and I have done over 20 Mercedes this year. Life goes on so I take two steps back and punt!

So, do you have a "final" outcome? Did she indeed follow up with the claim? What was the insurance company's decision? Award or no? Just curious what the out-of-pocket might have meant.

Hey Mr. Clean,

I will know the final outcome on Monday when I call the insurance company. She has been calling me every day to get her carpet replace. What a pain in the (*&)*&^(! Let everyone know when I do. Cheers

The customer from HELL ! Man I don't wish customers like that on nobody . Well maybe !! Noo not even them :D

Mercedes carpets do that. The fibers are so finicky that a slight brushing will cause them to matt down like that. In the future I suggest you get some type of pile lifter and carpet comb.

it seems to me like using a brush caused those lines in the carpet. from reading this post it sounds like thats what shes complaining about, This is why i use a terry towel to clean/blotch stains from carpet, then i brush..... Good Luck

Here is the Outcome!!

My insurance would not cover the carpet since there was nothing wrong with it according to the insurance company. That means I have to pay for her carpet $1375.00, but I get the old carpet since there really is nothing wrong with it, maybe just a little wear since it is a few years old. I went back three times to correct her carpet, but she was never happy with the results. I feel that she used me to get new carpet and that was her goal all the time. I learned a valuable lesson - always take before photos and never detail a car without the owners presents.

I just don't under stand why you would have to pay for it If your insurance company says it's ok then let her and them fight it out.. once it's pasted to them that should be it.. out of your hands..

I wouldn't pay for it. It would be a pain to be sued but I think you'd prevail.

I definitely agree it is a real risk to detail a car when the person isn't there if you don't know them.

rlspringer,

Not giving legal advice since I'm not a lawyer. :) I will offer an opinion or at least food for thought. Keep in mind that it is worth exactly what you paid for it.:p.

I would be hesitant to pay her right off. Your insurance company has, through their rejection of the claim, determined that there was no loss suffered. That would seem like evidence on your behalf should she take you to small claims.

Secondly, my guess would be even in a small claims situation, the judge would consider depreciation for the service she had already received from the carpet (that was the point of my questions regarding age and mileage of the vehicle).

If you decide you want to try to avoid the potential hassles of dealing with being sued, you might want to consider a significantly lesser offer than her full request.

Again, good luck. And I'll continue to watch how this one plays itself out.

You should at least post her license plate number as to give fair warning to your fellow Lone Star State detailers. Who knows, next thing she may be after is a new paint job!

I've been warned. :xyxthumbs

I have already talked to my lawyer and he suggested it would be more of a pain both money and stress so just replace the carpet and move on. I will also do want I can to see that she can only get her next detail is at a drive through car wash with the windows down - yeha. Life goes on but I have a new client that starting on Monday I will be detailing an Italian Yacht. I feel that the good lord will take care of me and provide a new and better path. The yacht call came the morning after I found out that I had to pay to replace the carpet. Go Figure!
