I am having a really hard time getting Hydraulic Lift Oil (from a wheelchair lift) out of the carpets...the gasket gave out on it and ran down and all over the carpeting. I immediatly scrubbed it with some orange clean and warm water among several other cleaners/ degreasers etc but to no avail. The smell is horrible and I have run out of options! Someone please help me get rid of this! Thanks and i look forward to everyone's input!

In fact, I called and ran this by my father. He is an experienced machinist with 30 years in the field. He actually uses simple green to clean parts and small oil/hydrolic fluid spills. Full strength should do the trick. Make sure you test it to see if it will discolor the carpet.

I would not use any cleaner/degreaser full strength on carpet/fabric. A dry cleaning solvent will remove it. Make sure you follow the solvent with machine extraction to rinse the solvent and the oil from the carpet.

thanks everyone for such immediate responses! I have, but never used, simple green...to be honest, i really could care less if it discolors the carpet....ANYTHING to get rid of the smell...its horrific to say the very least, especially on a hot summer day. I'll give that a try and follow it with my carpet cleaner/ extractor and see how it goes! Thanks once again...i'm a newbie and learning, so you'll have to deal with me for a while!

I've always had very good luck with Spot Shot. I've yet to have a grease stain that it wouldn't remove, but I don't know how well it would work with a spill as large as you had.

Where would I find dry cleaning solvent and would it be called by a name brand?
