Carpet extractor keeps blowing fuses!

I have a un-labeled, no brand extractor with 2 heaters and strong suction. It blows 15 amp fuses in my customers' breaker boxes. 20 amp outlets are fine when they have them, but they are rare.



Can I regulate the power draw at the outlet with some kind of adapter?
 
You need a 20 amp breaker, not an adapter. Obviously your extractor require's more amps. Get a portable generator that can provide the power needed.
 
Does it have two plugs or just one? If it has two plugs, plug one into another outlet, preferebly on another circuit. If it has only one plug, make sure any other appliaces, lights etc. one that circuit are turned off. You can also check to see if the washer or dryer is close by. Dedicated 20/30Amp circuits are usually wired just for these items. Other than that, not much you can do.

That's what I was thinking, find a second circuit and don't have any other draw on either circuit. I have to do this with my Century. When you need more than 15 amps you simply need it.

It only has 1 plug, unfortunately.
 
Yeah, you definitely need to get a portable generator or a new extractor. The last thing you want to do is trip a breaker that's already about to go and not be able to turn it back on. If you run into an old bulldog or pushmatic, you could be looking at a $50-80 repair bill.
 
I don't know what extractor is but you may have inrush current problem.

Does it have motor and on/off switch? They pull all lot of current when started than current drops.

Put a few uF capacitor across Line and Neutral in front of on/off switch.

That should help with some :)

I still don't know what extractor is :) Probably should check first before I express myself sorry :)
 
I took a close look at the labels on the extractor, and it clearly says 20 amps near the power cord, so it will only be going into 20 amp outlets. Fortunately, most of my customers have them somewhere in their house, near the disposer or microwave usually.
 
100 foot extension cord should work for you......just run it there......(good plug is a fridgerator plug) just unplug it till your done.....just dont take hours shampooing lol
