Carnaubas and Paint Flakes

SSII and DP MaxWax are good with flakes. Could be the same thing for all I know.

I don't notice any muting of Audi or Mazda silver's flakes with Meguiar's #16. My wife didn't think Souveran (paste) muted the Audi flake either, and I don't see it muting the metallic on the Jag. Didn't see any muting with P21s.
Collinite 476S seems to *really* mute the flake on some paints, but not on others :nixweiss Doesn't do it much at all on the Pewter Blazer, but does it a lot more on the metallic carbon Yukon and the Audi.

I really haven't seen a carnauba mute metallics except Collinte 476s.
I really like the paste version of 3M Perfect-It III Show Car Wax as well as One Grand Blitz Wax. They are 2 excellent waxes that get no real play here. They do not mute flakes. I just used Blitz on my father's new 328xi coupe.
A fabulous liquid carnauba goes to Clearkote Carnuaba Moose. Easily one of the deepest, liquid, glass-like looks I have seen that literally seems to darken paint. That in conjunction with Souveran Paste on top is a real knock out.

I’m stuck on P21s for all (multiple coats) finishes, but it seems to really make the metallic jump in any light on the ‘red-metallic’ in the AMG ‘exclusive’ paintwork on the Merc. It’s as if the metallic was plugged in!
I tend to dissect why there’s more metallic jump/brilliance on some vehicles than others and I believe it relates to how much metallic is in the paint finish. The Ridgeline metallic is scarce and large and I don’t feel the brilliance is as strong as the Merc which is packed with metallic and infinitesimal, no matter what product I use.
I agree whole-heartedly with Spilchy and the 3M Perfect-It III Show Car Wax, (including the whole line of Perfect-It). The One Grand product line is pretty good as well. Been a long time since I used their wax since I was introduced to the magic of P21s in a 4 week/stage application.

All the talk about silicones in LSPs causing problems down the road had me wondering about the "3M A.S.F (Acrylic Silicone Fluoropolymer)" stuff that's in it (I'm assuming your cans are the version with this printed on the bottom label), but after having used it on the A8, I've had paintwork done with zero issues.
Saitlysins- Yeah, I still reach for my stockpiled PI-III RC 05933 and MG 05937 more often than all my other abrasives combined.

Clearkote's Carnauba Moose on my Maxima. Looks pretty flakey to me.
That's a great flakes shot. I usually do 3 coats of Ultima, and now I have been topping it with Z8, which actually darkened the paint a bit, but the look is just amazing. I do want to test topping it with a carnauba to see what kind of result I get.
I think the muting being referred to is more of a "blending in" than muting, as can be shown in the last pic of your Maxima, Scott. I think it's that the carnauba's give such a glow (as can be perfectly seen in that last pic) that the flakes tend to mix in with that glow at many angles, not really setting them off as a sealant with less flare would. JMO, though.

I finally applied P21S 100% on my dark silver Es350 and it absolutely worked great. I had 3 coats of UPGP and one of Z8. The P21S 100% added a lot more depth and warmth and it made it super wet. The best part of it is that it did not mute or blend in the flakes at all, but instead really made them pop even more. However, I do have to say it was a hard paste, though I have nothing to compare to since this is my first time applying a paste.
