Bill my nieghbors already think that I am crazy! After I mow the lawn I leave the leaf blower out so I can dry my car. I think what finally convinced them was when I detailed my engine bay. My neighbor Corey asked me if I was doing a tune up:) I cant wait to see the reaction when I pull off the wheels and detail the back side of them and then use SG on them of course.

I voted for sealants.

To me, sealants last longer, stay slicker longer, shine longer, are just as easy to apply (most of them), and with recent technology, provide a VERY similar look to carnauba's.

Another sealant vote.

I prefer the looks of sealants on most colors, especially metallics and pearls. Factor in the added durability offered by the best sealants and ease of use and they are clear winners in my mind.

I'd hate to have to chose just one product type in real life though! I'm not sure I'll ever forget Lee's pics of that black bimmer dressed in Souveran... just stunning!:bow

EX is still more sealant than it is carnauba, so it would be in the Sealant category and I fully agree with you. The technology for sealants are improving daily.

I chose sealant (EX) for this reason also. Looks great on red but I have to admit, if it wasn't for EX I may have voted the other way. I haven't tried another sealant that looks as good, that carnauba glow, on red.:D Have yet to try FMJ and UPP though...

If you think EX on red looks good, try EX + Souveran. Oh my goodness. :bow

I am of course biased, but...

There is nothing quite like a well stretched carnauba on freshly prepped paint. There is no substitute for the razor sharpness, depth and clarity that a high quality carnauba is capable of.

And.....My carnauba finishes are no slouches in the durability department!

Hurry Spring!

for me, it's sealant in the winter time and carnauba on top of a layered sealant in the summer time for light colors. On a dark car though, I like carnaubas ontop of AIO

I vote for sealant. I love the fact that, as a base, sealant is longer lasting (how would I know,LOL) and, I can always as stated earlier, put Carnauba over the sealant. Sealants are relatively new to me, so I am still overjoyed over the REFLECTIVITY which I never attained with Carnauba. Of course I never PREPed so well before I started using sealants. Hmmm maybe I will try Carnauba over a thourough prep job..... Maybe thats why I never got my result I was seeking ..... :bounce another potential experiment:xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :D Always a new way to look at things !! Thanks Guys ! ! ! :D

Sealant for lights and light metallic colors....

Carnauba for darks, reds, blues and dark metallics.

If I had to pick an overall winner, that would be carnauba. Regarding durability, all the sealant guys MUST try any of the collinites. With the exception of Zaino and Klasse SG, no other sealant can compete with the 476S for toughness. Application? The 845 insulator wax is as easy as the easiest of the sealants, more durable than the majority of sealants, very glossy and has that deep rich look than only a carnauba can offer. If I had to pick the best overall LSP based in application, durability and looks, this is it!

i voted sealants. i think i just prefer the look and durability of sealants. i mean i bought a container of trade secret wax and have yet to use it. :o one day.......plus you can always top a sealant with a carnauba wax, while i don't think you can top a carnauba wax with a sealant.

I like a sealant better especially on black. Carnuba seems to give a hazey oily look. Sealants have much better clarity too.

I really like the way the carnauba looks on my black car.

Maybe I should try a sealeant. Get some pics with the same lighting comparing the two would be interesting.

I'm more of a carnauba user. UPP and EX have been the closest to the "look" that DC3 gives my 4Runner. However, factoring cost, durability, looks and availability, carnauba (in my case, DC3) still reigns supreme.

Its a Gemini thing.. Whatever "half" of me feels like applying on any given day. The funny thing is, I got a bottle of UPP for Xmas and I havent even opened it yet. The EX with Carnuba has been the go to Sealant.
