I inspect whatever vehicle I or my wife drives after every use and have done so for over 40 years. 30 of those years was under the protection of carnuabas and the last 10 with sealants.
No problem with "permanent" etching from bird dropping or waterspots.
Timely attention and removal (same day) is the best method for alleviating permanent environmental damage. Depending on a protectant of any type to solve this problem completely beyond its sacrifical period (hours) is foolhardy at best. IMHO
