car squeegees for drying

hey all, ever since finding this place i keep coming up with more and more questions. here's my latest, currently i have one of those car body squeegees with the really soft rubber for getting excess water off of your car after rinsing it, i then follow with a detail dry with a microfiber and i get really great results. my question is, does anyone else here squeegee their car off or are you strickly cotton towels or mf? do you think the squeegee might be doing any damage to the vehicle? right now with my current ride its not a big deal simply because of all the wrong things i did in the first few years i owned it, but i'm hoping zaino will help things and bring it back up to snuff again as well. but i'm just wondering for my next new car, i wanna make sure to start out doing things right.

yeah, cept mines some off brand. it's just a stick with a really soft rubber blade on it, maybe 12 inches long or something.

I have never used an "off" brand but with the proper precautions the California Water Blade can be safely used in most situations. Keep in mind, however it is not as foolproof or as safe as other methods such as quality 100% cotton or microfiber towels. Or quality synthetic chamois'. And it is only to be used as an additional tool, not your only drying tool.

The big risk with these, of course, is that any slight bit of debris caught in the blade will do extreme damage to the paint.

no actually i believe he's referring to teh squeeges that u clean the windows with.

i've actually done that before, thinking it's the SAME thing as the CALI WATER BLADE.

believe me, its NOT!

stop using the squeege, get a water blade if u really like it.

also , use absorber/mf to blob...

anything but the squeege... pleeze, u won't regret it.

I use one of those double bladed squeegees to dry my car. I really like it. Unless your car never on the street, I doubt that the squeegee will cause problems.

Hypersion, i'm not sure what kinda squeege u use. but there's a reason why cali water blade is patented. it's a special material that touches your paint. not blk rubber that you find on the squeegee. squeegees also doens't dry well and require several passes and the scrapping action of the rubber against the paint is just something not very 'autopian' imho ;)

To be an "autopian" all you need to do is get something and MAKE it work good. The blade is really nice, it takes a little more time to dry your car and you need to be a little more careful but it is a great tool.

how would you know, Joe? you don't even use it that much ;)

for me, I don't wash to a 100% clean finish therefore, I don't trust myself with a waterblade. but others may be in a better situation than me

you mean i cant use the squeegee that i took from gas station! i better go and bring it back then:D

cali water blades and a mf, that is all you will ever need to dry the car.

I love the combo of the CA Water Blade and a big MF. Works perfectly for me. Some people are afraid of CWB's but I have yet to have a bad experience. Even if I did it wouldn't stop me from using it. A great 1-2 punch for drying.

Made it myself. That is the panel from the side of my computer. I did it one night when I was bored. Got water all over my computer room doing it too :D
