car soap

05spectraSX

Love my 2005 Spectra SX!
I just washed my car yesterday and the soap scratched my paint horably. I don't know how else to clean the car without scratches and swirl marks forming.

It's very unlikely that the soap scratched your car. It's more likely that the contaminants did. It is very important to spray your vehicle beforehand to losen or rid your paint of any larger contaminants. It is also very important to wash with lots of suds and rinse your wash mitt in clean water very frequently.

IMHO they do more harm then help. Putting it on and taking it off will put on more marring then your car just sitting there. First you will need to polish yoru care to get rid of the swirl marks, Search for PC. then to keep marring to a minimum you will have to learn the proper way to wash yoru car, search 2 bucket method.

I think you should send a pm to Jngrbrdman (sp) and ask him what his website is. He has a great site that has all the info you need. I think that its probley the dragging of dirt along the paint. Also what are you using to wash the car, if you are using somthing other then a mf pad or mit it could be casuing the scratch. I think maybe a little reserch and a google search will help you out. I would suggest the adams polishes and the megs site movies to help out. Good luck with the paint and washing in the future

That is the site, 97F1504x4. I refer to it often. Full of lots of information for all types of things.

The more quality sheepskin mitts one owns the better. I recently read that Bill D has designated mitts for each area of his car. I am sure that he has no problems with marring with that kind of regimen.

I know when I first started on the forum i failed to learn the techniques becasue I was going to learn to polish them out. Believe me it is easier to keep them from happening than it is to polish them out. At least for me it is.

Now if I could just stop QD'ing:wall :lmfao

"I know when I first started on the forum i failed to learn the techniques because I was going to learn to polish them out" -Quote of the year! That really is an excellent point.

I thought my 4 bucket, six mitt method was a bit much
designating mitts for a section is even more so.
I have noticed an 80% reduction in marring through my method and only gliding the mitt ( I prefer microfibre) over the paint with no pressure

This is the cobweb affect i have.

With a combo of the classic swirls.

I used scratch X. It didn't work. :(

Well, that's definitely marred paint. That was from just one wash? Your arm will fall off if you try to remove those with Scratch-X. In order to remove those you'll need to polish with a good machine like a Porter Cable random orbit polisher or a good rotary buffer. Rotaries are NOT for beginners though and can cause serious damage to your paint if not used properly. The Porter Cable r/o polisher is nearly idiot proof.

I will ask the question agian. What did you use to wash the car and what was the process you used. What soap and what mitt or rag did you use?

Richard

well the classic swirls were there before but then i cobwebs came from one wash. Well should i use meguiar's 3 step polish

i used some off the counter car soap, and i just gently glided of the dirt, i didn't smash and pond it into the paint. i never do that.

Looks like the soap didnt getmixed very well and was in one spot in the mitt or what ever you used, must have been very strong stuff though. RANDAL
