Car got keyed! How do I minimize damage, short of a repaint?

Dang- someone really wanted to ruin my day, and he succeeded. I realize that there is no way to truly "fix" it, short of a repaint, but I'm wondering what can be done to minimize the damage.

I'm assuming rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then swirl and scratch remover. I don't have a PorterCable- do I rub with or against the scratch? Or maybe some ultra-fine sandpaper would first be appropriate. Then some touch up paint in the scratch channel.

If anyone has any tips, or can point me to some informative previous posts (the "search" function does not seem to be working tonight), I'd appreciate it.
