Car dirty in 2 days.

My car is immaculate after I wash and wax it. Maybe I am anal but For the body, I use a California Duster but now I am thinking twice since I dont wanna scratch my car. I notice my rims are dirty after 2 days. Sometimes I wipe it down but it gets dirty so fast. Every 20 miles there's a layer of dust on it already. Anyone have any ideas of how to safely keep your car clean even after a couple days?

Faster to wash the car!

Depending on how anal you REALLY are, washing a car can be VERY tedious... let's ask Accumulator! :chuckle:

Seriously though, if you're using the two bucket method and methodically dab dry your vehicle instead of "pushing" the drying towel on the paint/glass surface, this can take a long time.

QDs are just that... they do a very good job in a fairly short amount of time.

Yeah, but what about rims and tires?

Well I wash it every day and QD it between each ride unless I have a hurry after which I Qd or wash anyhow.

For the rims, NXT them and watch the rims' brake dust, road grime wash away without any special effort...

Sure. Buy an air filtration system for your garage, put a cover over the freshly washed car, and don't move it.

I guess I've become realistic ever since I moved to a house without a garage. Cars get dirty. I still wash it every week (weather permitting) and do what is reasonable, but still, it's a car and it operates in a dirty enviroment.

quick detailers can also be your BIGGEST enemy. I learned this lesson with a black car.

you have to accept that your car is going to get dirty. Its like wearing your underwear two days in a row. Once your car is out in the elements its going to get 'unclean". Its better to clean the glass and wheels frequently and reapply tire dressing. It makes the car look cleaner than it is. a good trick.

Quick detailing on paint should be kept to a minimum. THe less you touch the paint the newer it will look. I try to only quick detail paint once between my weekly wash (car is parked outside all the time). And if you do touch paint, make sure both the paint and your towel have been sprayed down thorougly with a quick detailer. I started using FK 146 and they claim its anti-dust ingredients will keep the car cleaner longer. So far so good.

My car gets dusty as quickly as you say yours does, so I just use a california car duster. My car (black civic) has soft clear, and I don't have any problems with the CCD causing marring. You may have different experiences, but it's worth a try- it'll save you a lot of time and leave your car looking great.

.

I used to do this but should you really apply tire dressing on a dirty tire? :nixweiss

welcome to my world. Dark blue car that sits outsides 24/7. it's dirty an hour after washing it :(

my only suggestion is to wash it, and wash it often. i wash 1-2x a week. I try not to QD my car though. I'm anal about marring

Yeah, over time. Everything causes marring though, even careful washing. It's just a matter of how much marring. Personally, I find the marring caused by QD sprays to be an acceptable tradeoff for keeping my car looking good all the time. Assuming I use a good quality towel and the car isn't too dirty, the marring usually can be hidden with RMG and polished out occasionally with Optimum.

Its like wearing your underwear two days in a row :getdown . GREAT analogy racingbeat!!

Whenever I take my baby for a ride, I Always, repeat ALWAYS wipe down with QD or I throw a MF in the washer and get it wet then place on spin cycle till very very slightly damp, wipe horizontals then verticals then use the same soiled MF and wipe off rims. This is automatic program for me. Throw the California Dust cover on her, kiss her goodnight and She's ready for the next ride......... :spot

That's the key for me, "an acceptable trade off". I just cannot go without the Cali Duster and QDing. I haven't seen any marring or scratching from these process and I am as careful as can be but I just can't let it go and washing every day is not always an option.

Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine and QEW do make it wasier to wash though and thankfully, the alternative is always there having those products.
