cant seem to get rid of swirls in black!!!!

im using #2 with compound pad then #9 with polishing pad and then #3 with same pad, then #26 by hand. still swirls! should i do 2 applications of 2 or 9? or even 3?? heeeeeeeeeeelp



could it be my pads? how do i clean them suuuper well?
 
Black is a beast. After 12 hours of working on my wifes black 96 ES 300 I just had to accept that I could not remove all the swrils with a PC. You might try a different combo and a higher speed. menzerna IP and powergloss have done me well on black followed by FP or P850RD. You might just have to live with some slight marring and cover it up.
 
but im going to be working on a porsche, in black, tomorrow.... i dont have "swirl remover for dark cars" sooo i guess ill have to accept the fact that he wont get an absolutely amazing finish. hes happy enough to get a wash polish and wax so i dont think hell mind.
 
Here's a pro secret: most people can't even see swirls. I do my best to get it perfect, but if it won't come perfect after Powergloss via wool pad followed by Optimum/green pad, I just put RMG on it and call it a day. I've never had a complaint.
 
maybe #9 isnt getting the remains of #2 out??

is #9 a good 'follow up' to #2???



maybe #80 would have more bite.



#83, #80, NXT is killer on black.



seen lots of fantastic work around here on black vehicles.



i think the #9,#3, and #26 should be doing lotsa filling though,, with that in mind, i'm surprised to hear you still have swirls!
 
oh yeah, what are you removing the products with?? hopefully using terry, or caked up MF isnt your problem.....
 
i buff clean then use a brand new, washed, mf that does not scratch at all to remove the glaze. i think it might be my pads? they're kinda old, especially my polishing one.

i can get a bottle of #80 on my way there tomorrow if i need to, is it really good?



im using a rotary so i dont think i can use #83(d/a cleaner/polish??) should i invest in a new pad, cuz mines really chewed... :hairpull

I have 2 black cars, a Lexus LS430 and a Mercedes SL 55. What I have found best are the Menzerna polishes. I start with the the PO106 using a PC set at 6 and a Sonus white pad. In many cases I can go directly to an LSP and I use Meg's #16. If I experience any marring from the PO106 which is rare, I'll use the FP and then the #16.

This has worked the best for me especially on the ceramiclear paint on the MB
 
rivest777- The jump from #2 to #9 is a bit of a leap, going from #2 to #80 oughta be better. You can use #83 by rotary, the "dual action" in the name refers to how the product acts, not the means of using it (goofy, huh?).



Once you've done the major correction with something like #2, IMO you oughta use the milder product as many times as you have to to get the finish right. Shouldn't be much left to correct after the #2.



Never much point in using #3 more than once, as it's just a nonabrasive glaze.



Yeah, get a new pad if you even *suspect* you need one. I sure wouldn't risk messing up somebody's Porsche using an old pad; actually, I wouldn't use a questionable pad on *anything*.
