Can't remove swirls to save my life

Hi guys, I have a problem. I've been trying to remove swirls from two different cars. There must be something I'm doing wrong but I can't figure out what. I need some ideas/suggestions.

I am using a PC with and Orange LC pad.

I've tried using Meguiars Color X, Wolfgangs Swirl Remover, Zaino Swirl Cutter, and Tropicare Swirl Cutter.

I've tried different speeds on the PC and I just don't see improvement. I've clayed the cars and still...

The cars I've been trying on are a Mazda 3 '07 and a Peugeot 607 '06... both Black.

the only speed you need to remove swirls is 6

tape off a 1' X 1' area and try slow(1" per sec.) overlapping passes

in both directions

I have no exp. with those cars or polishes so I hope someone else can help you with a good combo

It would help to know:

  1. What size pads
  2. What PC speed setting
  3. How fast you were going (e.g., 1" / second)
  4. What product / how much product on the pad
  5. How much pressure was applied
  6. Etc.

What is "Zaino Swirl Cutter?" Do you mean Z-PC?

1. 6"

2. 6

3. about 1.5"/s

4. Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover / about 3 lines about 4" long per 1' x 1' square

5. moderate, the backingplate was about halfway into the pad.

Zaino Z5

Z5 isn't really a polish, regardless of what the bottle says. It's a sealant with potential swirl-hiding abilities (after many many layers). Z-PC is their only abrasive polish.

You might be using too much polish. I've never used Wolfgang stuff, but try using a single 6" line for a 2x2 area. You might not be breaking the polish down enough.

try prima swirl an orange lc pad and speed 4 with very little pressure and slow hand speed. this product takes out scratches that were usually reserved for a rotary! good luck!

Call me crazy, but I use Pro Car Beauty "Swirl Eliminator" with a Pro Car Beauty white waffle pad on my ROTARY!

It works beautiful every time! Apply with micro fiber applicator and let lightly haze then buff off with light pressure. I will post a pic of an 07 Mercedes S550 I just did last week with it as soon as I find my flippin camera!

Besides using speed 6 (or mabye 5 with 4" pads), I suspect you need more aggressive products. Of the ones you mentioned, I've only use the Color-X, and it's *VERY* mild stuff, not nearly enough to remove significant marring.

I'd get some 4" pads and some mildly abrasive product. FWIW I always recommend 1Z polishes for beginners, they're *VERY* user-friendly and they do work.

Also, note that the PC is a rather mild polisher. It can take numerous (and I don't mean just six or seven) passes to do significant correction.

Thanks for all the help, I think I'm gonna try some of the products you mentioned. I mean the cars don't have significant swirling, they just have very mild ones from day to day washing.

Thanks Guys!, I removes almost all of the swirls... some small ones remain but I think that's a matter of using a stronger product.

On cars that are rough (and even once they are nearing completion) one of the biggest problems I had was using too much pressure on the PC, thinking it would help...it doesn't. The PC works best when you allow it to do as designed...oscillate freely. By just using enough pressure to keep the machine in contact with the car and from flinging product everywhere, the results are greatly improved.
