Can't find the thread on 'homemade' Spray 'N Wipe

Ive washed with Distilled numerous times and found it to be great. However, it gets expensive at 5 bucks/wash for water. Drying is incredibly easy and no problem with water spots.

5bucks? When I do rinseless, I use ONR with 2 gals distilled water from Walmart for 67 cents per gallon. Turns out to be pretty inexpensive.

I don't know about your local ordinances, but when I visit family in Dallas where there are water restrictions, I just use a 5 gal bucket and do it in the garage or driveway. Nobody should hassle you as long as there is no hose in sight. If it's a totally sunny hot day, you should do it in the shade of your garage anyway :D

Ok.....maybe something got lost in the translation.

I've used Poorboy's Spray 'N Wipe on my car when it is dirty, but not filthy (whoa....wait a second......my car never gets filthy! :) ). No buckets, no mitt, just the S&W in one hand, and a clean microfiber or two in the other. Spray a panel, wipe it down, and move on to the next one.

I thought the original thread -- the one I cannot find -- was touting the use of ONR or QEW as a replacement (and a pretty economical one at that) for S&W. I really don't have any desire to 'wash' the car. It's simply not ever that dirty. I just wanted to have a "Spray And Wipe" type product to clean the car with.

Make sense?

At the 6oz/gallon ratio ONR makes a great QD'r, however, I certainly wouldnt advise using it to clean the car when dirty (using the QD solution and a MF), then again, I wouldn't reccomend doing that with S & W either (in fear that it would marr/scratch). But, I think it works just as good as S & W at cleaning.

At $35/gallon, it would be more economical than S&W. Inadvisable for what you describe, but it would clean along with the addition of marring I would guess, your perogative.

Do you mean a quick detailer? Mix 1 1/2 oz of ONR with 32 oz of distilled water and it makes a great quick detailer.

Stryder's right -- I do mean a waterless wash.

I've actually used Poorboy's S&W on my Harvest Gold Metallic Ford Taurus for about 18 months now. It doesn't seem to induce any marring, regardless of how much dirt is on the surface. Granted, I've got a lot of product on this car (usually polish/sealant/carnauba stack), but I have never seen any scratches or swirls from 'washing' it with a MF and the S&W. Usually, I wipe it down once a week, and just remove the typical road dust/grime that accumulates. The MF is usually in need of a cleaning when I am done, but no I never see any marring.

I'm tempted to try the ONR -- it's a whole lot cheaper than the $35 gallon of S&W, and it sounds like it would do a very similar job.

It sounds like Chemical Guys ONE might be a good product for you to try. ~$50 gallon. Check it out.

At QD strength ONR will make ~20 gallons.

I wish it were that simple Ralliart. We're in the middle of a serious drought here in the Triangle, and there isn't much rain on the forecast.

Of course, maybe this might be the time the Town Council stops rubber stamping all of those building permits!

NSXTSAY -- I'll take a look at CG's ONE. Sounds like it might be just what I'm after.

'Don\'t get me started on Clean Water requirements & water restrictions vs. reasonable home car washing...\r\n\r\nIn a pinch, just buy a couple gallons of purified, spring or distilled water for your ONR or QEW base. \r\n\r\nI suppose you should display the empty containers in proudly for the rent-a-cops, too.'
