Can this seam be fixed? (pic attached)

Somehow the thread in a seam on my leather seat has broken and it now is about an inch and a half long.



Will I be able to find somone who can stitch this in place, and if so, what kinds of things should I look for in someone who says they can do it? I don't want a botched job but at the same time I don't see a need to take the seat out to have this little repair done. Unless it's absolutely necessary.

Any decent upholstery shop can easily fix that. The leather will need to be removed from the seat, and sewn up. You will not be able to tell it was repaired afterwards. No big deal.

I have been lurking a few days, and finally found something I felt I could contribute to. I am mostly just absorbing information at this point.
 
That can be repaired! I have customers that come to me for repairs like that all the time. I don't do the repairs I have a auto upholstery tech come and fix it while i detail the car. He is awesome. You should find someone in the area that can fix that.

The cover will have to come off, as it needs to be re-stiched.
 
It can be easily fixed without taking the seat cover off. Just learn some surgical suturing skills and you will be all set. The key here is to use a small curved needle and a needle driver (fancy pair of needle nose pliers). And also burying the knot would be a good idea.



Of course, being a medical student (soon to be surgical resident - Match Day is on Thursday 3/18/04) lends itself to easy acquisition of suturing materials.
 
Just like everyone else says, this is a no-brainer for an upholsterer. These guys are absolutely amazing...I admire their skills even more than paint shop pros.



I used a guy once for some custom door panels, he did a great job for cheap. I felt my job wasn't even worthy of him; he was restoring a 70's vintage Mercedes and looked better than new.
