My BMW has a scratch on the door of the little comparment below the dash shown in the attached pic.

Is it possible to fix or hide this defect?

Thanks in advance.

I can barely see it, however, there is not too much you can do. It may not be that expensive to just order a new door. Other than that, try applying some protectant to the door; that my hide the scratch a bit.

Well, I can see it. It's staring me right in the face everyday. Imagine if it were your car and

you yourself made the scratch and you had to see it everyday. It's driving me crazy.

I looked up the price for an instrument panel storage compartment door for your car (I think I have the right one) and it's only $48.75. It will cost much more if you have someone repair it instead of replacing it. Give me the model # and year and I'll confirm the price.

Hi. Thank you! I looked but I couldn't find anything.

It's a 2003 BMW 325i.

Cheers

Yup - I had it right. The part # is 51168202188 and retails for $48.75. Not that expensive at all. Glad to help out. It shows only .1 of a labor hour to install, so it's probably snaps right in.

BTW, can you tell me where you looked that up or where I can get it? I tried my local bmw online store but they didn't have it. thanks again.

Not that it's any more comforting to you, but like others have already mentioned, it's barely noticeable. I used to be anal about things like that when my car was new but over time, if I worried about every ding, dent, or scratch I'd be in the mental institution. In time you'll do bigger boo boos to your own car where you won't even remember about this tiny scratch. Your car is a daily driver right? Things like that are bound to happen, sooner or later.

I'm an Insurance Appraiser and I looked up the part in my database (ADP Pen Pro). It shows a picture of the dash and if you click on it, it will give you all the info. Give me your e-mail address and I'll copy the screen and send it to you. :2thumbs:

Thanks david. I'll pm you my email address.

BlackElantraGT, yea, I guess you're right. I've been addicted to detailing now for a few months so I"m still in that mode where everything has to be perfect etc. I should relax.

phew.

If you go to Realoem.com you can enter your car model/year and find part numbers with diagrams to every part of your BMW. No prices are listed but you should be able to find most at Bavauto.com and the rest from your local stealership.

Looks like you've been turning off the DSC and having some real fun! J/K but I will say it doesn't look too bad to me but if it bothers you that's all that matters. Sounds like $50 isn't too bad. Good luck - I know how you feel. Maybe a black fine point marker might suppress it enough for you.

If you're getting a new door anyway, you could experiement with more risky stuff to repair it. I thought once a long time ago I read where someone claimed you could put a narrow felt tip, maybe it was like a felt tip from a pen or something, in a Dremel. I've been a little skeptical so I wasn't going to recommend it, but you could use your old door to experiement with the idea if you like. The idea is to gently heat the plastic and melt the scratched area to hide it. Like I said, I'm skeptical it would produce a satisfactory repair, but it might be fun to play with the idea on something that doesn't matter.

Since I plan on getting a new one I think I will try to experiment on it with the felt tip pen idea and maybe a dremel. I'll let you know how it comes out. Thanks guys.
