Can red stay red forever and does white really look clean longer?

I love the VW in white. I have 2 cars in white, including an older VW, keep it clean and waxed and the tires black and you are good to go.

476 is amazing me on it's clean rinse at the coin-op. Not sure why it sat on my self for over a year.

My Yukon DXL is Carbon Metallic, sorta like the very dark gray metallic. Cool color, but not low-maintenance. The first time my wife laid eyes on it she was all  about how it was gonna be one of those vehicles that's a PIA for me to keep as nice as I want it.

IME the only diff between my Carbon Metallic and straight black is that the inspections are harder because the marring doesn't show when you want to see it (in the shop) but does show when you *don't* want to see it (in real life).

When you say "not gonna go there again" regarding black, I'm even more convinced than ever that you oughta buy the white one. You *know* why already ;) It's the same reason you don't want black this time.

Hey, I do pretty well with regard to marring up my vehicles, but if I were buying that VW I'd get white, period (and I actually do toy with the idea of buying one of those from time to time). Wouldn't even consider any other color. I'd have a lot more fun with a white one than I would with any other color; I'd just drive the wheels off it instead of making it a never-ending detailing project (not that I don't appreciate those too).

Thanks for your thoughts, Accumulator (and everyone else)...I really appreciate it!

You make a good point...there is a "never ending detailing project" and then there is a "never ending ungratifying detailing project." My black car is the latter. I love to see it clean, I love shining it up...I hate to see it looking bad again the next day!

I'm willing to put the time in...I just want to be able to appreciate my work for a while (without having to close my eyes and feel the paint with my hands). It definitely sounds like white is the best choice in that respect...it just doesn't have as much "pop" as the other two colors. I'm sure once it's in the garage I would get over that very quickly! :)

Thanks,

Gary

Gary - Polish the heck out of the paint and it will look fantastic. Obviously not like black, but perfect white can look very wet and glossy.

Most dealers when they purchase cars they tend to try and stay away from white's. White vehicles resale a lot less. But it all depends on the vehicle!

For instance a yellow jeep will fetch more money then a black jeep. If I were to buy a gti it would probably be red, sports cars red you can't go wrong. Also silver is about neutral, and resales very good aswell.

Sports car + Red Is almost a must.

Red can stay red forever as long as its maintained the oxidized cars you see that were red at one point. Were just neglected

White is a nice color and looks beautiful when polished. But if you get a tar spot on it, or even some dark mud from water runoff. It sticks out pretty bad.

White paint will mask imprefections, Swirls, light scratches better than red.

Red will show anything,

Silver is a good DD color IMHO gives a sleek look, not to bright not to dark. Can mask some imperfections. And can hide dirt a little better.

Both my cars now are GM's Gold color. I forget the name of it. Its not bad for masking imperfections. You can see swirls/oxidation on my Saturn but that was bought used and neglected by its previous owner. But you do need a halogen to see it. So from a distance it looks alright. To the autopian we can pick it apart.

I have a bright red Ford F150 and it doesn't show the dirt that bad, in fact I think it's a little better than my white BMW.

The truck is 15 y.o. and has single stage paint but it still looks great. I keep it in a garage and it is waxed regularly.

Don't fear the red GTI, they look great in that color!

Best color for a daily driver IMO is silver. White shows less paint imperfections but, every little bit of dust or dirt always shows.

I agree 100%, I have owned a few silver cars and now I have a white car. You can see ever bit of dirt on a white car. Silver masks the daily road grime much better that white. Think about wearing a white shirt, one little spot and it really sticks out. Same thing with a white car.
