Can polish & compound remove bird sh*t?

I got caught today in traffic by a pigeon (I think). The poop hit dead on my hood. I tried to pullover, but there was no where to pull over. I finally found a spot to pullover after 4 mins and all it took was 4 mins & my gloss was fried! It was about 3'' long n 3'' wide! I can not believe it! I hit it with bird poop spray and wiped it with a microfiber towel I keep in the trunk, but it was too late. I was thinking of having a detail shop polish & compund my hood, will it work? Thanks in advance!

That sucks. 4 minutes may have been all it took to bake the crap into the finish if you were in the sun and stuck in traffic, especially on the hot hood. If its really etched it can be wet sanded, compounded and/or polished off assuming your paint is in good condition with enough of it to be rubbed out. Start with the least aggressive method first. Good luck!

Yes, it was under the sun and the hood was hot.

What's QD? Yes, I did a was soon after that & nothing. =(
 
Can you elaborate a little on "my gloss was fried"? Are you saying (as SoCalB6 alluded to) that there is an etch mark? Is it just a discoloration or are there pits, paint removal, etc.? Do you want to attempt it yourself or do you just want to bring it somewhere?



4 minutes is not that long so hopefully the damage is minimal. If it is "minimal" it should be able to be polished out. If it was a really wicked poop it could have caused more than minmimal damage, which can be crazing, etc., which can't be fixed.



What's the condition of the rest of the hood? If the car is in excellent shape you can go to Wal-Mart and get some Meguiar's SwirlX or ScratchX and a microfiber applicator to apply and the most expensive microfiber cloth they have to remove. If the car isn't in good shape, you're going to leave a shiny spot in the middle of the hood.
 
take a pic and well give some better solutions. 4 mins hopefully isnt that bad since you took care of it right away even though it hit your hot hood.
 
How is bird poop etching your guys' clear?



I've left huge honking loads on my cars for several weeks, baking in the sun, and usually a quick wash and sometimes a very minor polish removes every trace of them.

No pits nor paint removed but gloss looked ''melted''. I won't attempt to fix it myself. I will have a detail shop polish it. The hood is brand new with new paint (painted 3 months ago) by a certified BMW collision center.

This was either a sea gull (because there are plenty in that area) or a jurrasic park size pigeoun. Poop was HUGE! I am extremely angry and if I knew which bird did it........:bat

Sounds like being a fresh repaint, it also had no LSP on it. That might explain the quick damage to the finish.

I', going to have it polished then right after that I will take my lazy butt and wax the car right away. I have a jar of unopened Zymol concours in my closet. Thanks for ur kind help guys! :chuckle:
