Can I use my PC 7424 to sand wood?

I have a stair railing in my house I want to restain can I sand some of the larger areas with the 7424?

What would I need to buy to accomplish this? All I beleive or know that I have for it is car polishing pads.

Thanks for the help and don't think I'm sacralgious (sp) just frugal I dont see why I would buy another sander if this tool can do it.

That's what the PC was originally made for, sanding. Did you not get a sanding backing plate with the PC? If not you will need one and some sandpaper disks.

Guess I will have to look through my box of parts and find out. Who would sell sand paper discs for it? Or are the disc all just generic? Do they velcro on like the polishing pads?

Teck- There are a lot of different sanding disks, check out your local Lowe's/etc. and you'll see what I mean. There are velcro or adhesive-backed ones, ones with holes in 'em for the dust/etc. to escape and/or to hook up a vacuum attachment (weird looking black plastic thing that came with one of my PCs but not the other), lots of different options. My one PC even came with a few sheets of adhesive-backed sandpaper.

Will the disc's at say Home depot be labeled for use with the 7424 or are the disc more universal? Anyone have a link to an online example so I know what I'm looking for?

Correct.

Dear 7424 was actually a sander.

When I use 7424 for sanding, I always use 3M's Interface Pad (grey foam), as this helps to ease off the pressure and helps ensure safer sanding and more even distribution of pressure throughout the sanding surface.

Teck- Can't say for certain, but I'd *guess* that it'd work with both sizes since I don't see a different one made for " 5" only" or anything like that. When the one reviewer said that some dust escaped with his 6" pad, maybe that's because it's made to work with the smaller ones too :nixweiss Hey, I really am just guessing.... you'll know soon enough when you put it on your machine and scope it out.

It works with either, just have to get the correct backing plate. I use my old one for sanding wood and metal all the time.
