Can I use Megs APC/APC+ as substitute for Megs #39?

Hi,

I keep toying with the idea of buying some APC/APC+ but never get around to it. But now I might. What I'd like to know is can I use it as a substitute for Meguiars #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner?

Basically, I want something that I can use to clean areas like plastic dashboards and inner door panels before applying a dressing.

Also, what is the difference between regular APC and APC+?

Many thanks,

Face

Why not try a wool detergent (washing liquid) mix. Most people on here use Woolite which you can get in the UK - I found it in Tescos. Any liquid wool detergent would do though. Use a 6:1 ratio of Water to Detergent. It works well too. Normally put the mixture into a spray bottle and apply via a microfibre. For really soiled areas I change the microfibre for a Spontex Rub Out sponge - you get them in Tescos as well.

Hope this helps,

Phil

Although I haven't used either #39/APC+ the Woolite mix really does a great job of cleaning all interior plastic surfaces. I think most people on this board would recommend Woolite (or any other wool detergent). I certainly got this tip from Autopia and now would only consider something else if the Woolite mix didn't work. I suspect that #39/APC+ would be good for exterior plastic surfaces that are really soiled - my guess is that Woolite might not be strong enough to cut through road gime - must admit I haven't tried yet!

Cheers,

Phil

I have #39 and APC+. I use APC+ on vinyl, usually when I'm cleaning the whole interior and it's disgusting. One nice thing is you can make it stronger or less strong via the dilution. 8:1 works great on yucky vinyl. I use #39 as more of a spot cleaner. IMO it isn't quite as powerful as 8:1 APC+, but then perhaps it's a bit safer to use.

I make up 24 oz bottles of each, and they don't go bad. Just gently shake before use if you're worried about them seperating (I've never noticed it).

About the only thing I know of that can't be stored is an Oxy-Clean solution. But I think that is because it would blow up the bottle or something from escaping pressure.

Faceman - try 1Z Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner from erazer.co.uk - works an treat on exterior trim and dashes etc. Not as economical as APC+ but its cleaning power is awesome - lifts dirt, grime and previously applied dressing leaving a completely virgin surface for whatever dressing you want to apply.

I used it inside my 205 and GF's Ka and it cleaned everything in 1 hit - I used an old sponge and let it foam before simply wiping away with one of my old MF's.

Love the stuff!

Hi,

I might try that... but which "Vinyl and Rubber cleaner" did you mean?

I see that there is a Vinyl-Rubber Care and Protectant and also a Plastic-Vinyl Cleaner. Have you tried both?

Is the company good to deal with?

Thanks,

Face

Sorry mate - Plastic & Vinyl cleaner is the one you want -the other's similar to AG Vinyl & Rubber Care

Andy is a top bloke to deal with - never had any problems with him.

You might also want to try the Intensive Vinyl Treatment - it's about £12 a litre but best trim dressing I've used - 3 weeks on GF's Ka and still going strong.
