Can I use a rinseless wash (QD strength) to effectively remove polish oils?

I'd say it depends on intended use. It might be fine for an oil tolerant LSP but not for something finicky like a coating.

Also most newer rinseless products fill a tad so you might not notice hazing or fine swirls.
 
I would not count on it 100%.


 


The question I ask is after your wash:


 


1. are you putting on an lsp?


2. if yes, which one?
 
Well, I'll be polishing my car tomorrow and I'm using Sonax Perfect Finish. After I polish the car I don't want to rewashw/soap + water, rather wanted to use QD strength Rinseless to see if I can effectively remove all the oils for my LSP (BFWD).


 


 


I've used Target's 91% alcohol in the past with MFs, but I got alot of smearing. (I was removing 85rd)
 
I wouldn't expect that to work at all for removing oils.


 


If you get smearing, that's just a sign that the approach is working IMO.  The "smears" you see are the oils coming up off/out of the paint.  I'd keep using the IPA for now, but....


 


One of these days you oughta just order up some PrepWash or Eraser or somesuch product  ;)
 
BTW, IMO the Menzerna PO85rd might be quite a test of oil-stripping ability!  I"ve never gotten around to using mine (doubt I ever will now that I have HD Polish), but people I respect really talk about all the oils in it.

There are plenty of oils in 85RD to remove, as you know. Took me many years to realize this. I wanted nothing (or very little) leftover in my polishes. That is #1 reason why I left Menzerna for other polishes.


 


But, I sold one car of mine many years ago after using only PO85. It looked terrific.

Some Panel Wipe product would be best to remove (100%) all polishing oils or maybe even a paint cleanser will do.
 
mystickid- OK, but I bet somebody like Ron Ketcham might give you an earful about why that type of solvent isn't optimal for this sort of thing.

I also have Prima Amigo Glaze which I plan to use right after my polishing but before LSP. WIll Amigo clean up the polishing oils for me?
 
Prep-All in the aerosol can works wonders just for this.  I'd like to hear opinions on why NOT to use it...if there's truly a good reason, I'd really like to know what it is...a I use the stuff.


I just used CarPro Eraser yesterday and it is FANTASTIC.  Love, love, love it.

Very Kewl, how would you compare Eraser to Prep-All?
