Can I get a PC home in my luggage?

If you don't want to wait until you go to Chicago then you could purchase it from the Autopia shop for $129.95 + $44 shipping = $173.95. If you were to pay by PayPal at todays rate of 1.79, that would be £97.18 GBP delivered to your door. Not bad really!

I found it no problem to bring a PC back in my suitcase. Ordered it from CoastalTool while in the US - since they offered a package with 6" counterweight and velcro backing plate. The whole lot cost just over £80. Walked right through customs when I got back...

Just remember to get some pads while you're over there - much cheaper - something I stupidly forgot

Cheers,

Phil

As has been said here already, much less hassle to order from David on here & get it now whilst the Sterling to Dollar rate is very kind to us. I couldn't be bothered shopping for it or hauling it round for less than 30 quid saving if your lucky.

It's more or less the same with other detailing supplies as well. Why waste your valuable time over in the US searching around for supplies when you can get most of it sent over for a very reasonable sum.

But hey who I am I to tell you what to do, it's your trip, enjoy:D

I thought you all would understand I would just like to see all the different detailing supplies that us non U.S Autopians find difficult to get lined up in the shop! :D

Might have to rethink if getting a PC shipped over not a bad idea, still appeals to me bringing it back on the plane, like something to look forward to.

Any other advice on anything else I could bring back that would be of benifit to the car/garage? :xyxthumbs

If it were me, I'd concentrate on stocking up with washmitts, mf cloths, PC pads, etc. etc. Those sort of things are a fair bit cheaper in the USA and very lightweight so you don't get weighed down with your luggage. The odd pot of Souveran wouldn't do no harm though! ;)

Bought my pc last week from here .fantastic service.

Ordered about 10 pm on thursday

Arrived 12.55 pm tuesday

no duty.

really pleased

When you pick up your PC ... don't forget to get one each of the U ground male & female recepticals ( Extention cord plug ends ) so you can make up an ectention cord to go from your converter to the PC so you don't have to have the converter 2M from the car. They are about $3 each for good ones .. and do get good ones. 2 of them only weigh about as much as an 1/8th of a pint of beer. ( English know those measurements )

Stupid question,

Do you guys think I could get a PC in my luggage and home to England without too much trouble?

:bow

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mr Con.

I just retired from working in the middle east for 13 years and have lots of experience stuffing things into suitcases.

Don't give it a second thought. The PC doesn't weigh much. The polishes and stuff will be a bit heavier, but nothing to worry about.

I have never, in 13 years, had an airline weigh my carry on luggage - and I have had some incredible stuff in there (but that's another story). Again, in 13 years, the only airline to ever charge me excess weight was British Airways. They can be real ba****ds at times, but it still will save you money, even with the excess charges.

BTW, after 13 years of flying out of the middle east, I never want to get on a airplain again.

Enjoy your trip, don't worry about weight as long as you have the correct number of pieces (two per person plus a carry on - I think)

All the best

Thanks again everyone for the advice, still waiting for someone in the Chicargo area to tell me where to spend my tourist dollars on cleaning supplies,a one stop shop would be wonderful.

When I was in Georgia a few Years back we stopped at a general auto store, the range was pretty poor, with mainly products from infommecials, but then the people we will stay with are not intrested in cars.

Given the price of petrol these days, you might be better off smuggling some of that into the UK.

Aside from a few products like Zaino and Sovereign I cannot think of to many products which we cannot buy in Blighty.

I still think 23 quid for letting someone deliver a PC is cheap money but I dont have a ticket to the USA.

Dont mean to go off topic..but are there any good alternatives to the PC in the UK? Im just thinking that duty, P&P, the PC, and the transformer will all cost a bit

In terms of an alternative to the PC, the Makita BO6040 looks interesting. There are quite a few discussions on other equipment which can easily be bought in the UK, unfortunately, none (from memory) work out dramatically cheaper than a PC.

The total cost of getting a PC and all the bits is probably around 170 - 200 Pounds depending if your changed duty or not. I would say this is good value for money given the benefits of ownership of a PC.

I achieved a level of shine which I could never have done by hand and it is so much quicker.

I'd get your PC from David here @ autopia and use the extra space in your lugagge for some of the Eimann Fabrik kit myself as that's harder to get hold of (and from all accounts takes a lot longer to arrive) plus any other bits & pieces you can find.

As many others have said, there's very little that we can't get over here now and if you do a bulk type order the shipping usually gets swalloed by the saving you make anyway.

But hey, it's your holiday! I agree it'd be nice to actually see a detailing shop with all those goodies on display though - too tempting for me I suspect!
