Can I Dry Sand?

Hey folks,



I don't have air available at the time and am experimenting with painting and old parts to work on my skills. I like the Trizact idea...



Anyone used Trizact or other high grit paper dry? I'm going to give it a shot by machine to see what happens, but thought I would check in to see if someone had already done it.

The only time I have dry sanded is when stripping paint and with wood. I think it's best to wet sand with automotive paint.
 
Actually the 3M video shows the surface being dry sanded with a DA/1500 before they wetsand with 3k trizact. But only for spot correction, not on the entire surface like they do with 3k trizact.



You stand the chance of inducing more pigtails into the surface if you use a PC (3/8 throw) to sand vs a airsander that has a small 3/32 throw.
 
Yes, I find it frustrating that there is no electric RO with the short throw (as far as I know)... but that probably means there is no market for it... since the abrasives are designed for wet use. Oh well...
 
I wonder if it's feasible to arrive at a mobile detail with a rotary, compressor, and da air sander and knock out a full wetsand (i guess it's a "sand" job?) in a single day. Think of the profit in doing something like that...
