as soon as the warm weather hits up here in new york, i want to start detailing my own car and also my families and friends cars. my question is do i have to start with a pc or udm? i have been researching the last few days here on autopia and autogeek sites, and i was wondering if i could start with either the flex, (when available again) or a festool? either seem to be in between using the pc or udm and a rotory; and from what i read can do about 90% of what i rotary can do but is not as dangerous to use. so, to the flex and festool users, what do you think? if you think its possible to start out with either one of them, could you give me a little info; such as what speed (rpms) do you use to spread the product out with? then what speed (rpms) do you use to work in the compound, polish etc.

Thanks.

Dave.

Search is your friend but the flex for the extra money blows away the pc/udm and it would be hard to screw up the paint unless you have no idea of what you are doing.

Just buy the Flex. I'm sure by then there will be more videos out on how to use it. You actually use it in a similar fashing to a PC/UDM. I cut my teeth on a PC this past summer, and stepped up to a Flex in September. A lot of what I learned for the PC applied to the Flex as well. You can just move through it a lot quicker now!

If you are a little nervous using the Flex, on you first use of it, don't use the highest setting, go maybe one or two down from the highest. It will take you longer to break down the polishes but will be a good learning experience. Once you have done that first car, you should have enough confidence to use it at its highest setting.
