Calling all mobile detailers...literally :)

Not if your established and have repeat customers. Waiting a few hours for a return call isn't that big of a deal unless you cater to a bunch of price shoppers.

The thing I hate (from a customer standpoint) is when I'm paying someone to do work for me and they are on the phone when they should be devoting 100% attention to my business. It can be disrespectful at times. I also hate when I'm talking with someone about business and they answer the phone. :nono

I do get a lot of price shoppers. If I talk to them, I can normally sell them on my more expensive service rates. If it goes to VM, then they call someone else and book with them. This is very typical of people who find me on google local. I do not answer the phone when I'm talking to someone else in person, nor do I answer it when I'm working by the hour. When I'm working flat rate, then the customer should not care if I spend extra time.

You iPhone fanboys really get me. I can do all of the above and more on my Droid and I don't have to deal with Steve Jobs and his draconian restrictions.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback so far. How exactly are you using Google Voice? If I understand correctly, I'd pay for a separate line that would give me another phone number. I would then hook that number up to Google Voice, as well as my personal cell phone. That way, whenever anyone called the business number, it would go through Google Voice to my cell phone. Correct? I can have another phone number without actually having another phone. Or does Google give you a number?

Not exactly, when you sign up with GV (Google Voice) you have the option to get a Google-issued real phone number. Unless things have changed very recently, the number is free and you can pick from available numbers.

Once you have your number you can tie it to any phone you have, cell or landline. That way when anyone calls the GV number your phone rings. You can have it set up to where the caller id on your phone will show you GV number or the actual number that is calling you. I have is set up the first way so I instantly know if I'm getting a business call or not. You can even set it up to screen callers by asking for their name first. Then when you answer a GV call it will say "Call from ______" and give you the option to either answer it or send it to voicemail. If you send it to voicemail, you can even listen in as they record it and jump in by pressing #, just like on a house phone.

There are dozens of other cool features like voicemail transcription, voicemail-to-email, voicemail-to-text, SMS via the GV number, number blocking, call recording, etc.

I absolutely love this service as it is perfect for me and my business right now. Feel free to PM me if anyone needs help setting up or using the service.

Its one phone number that can auto forward calls to other phones and has voicemail. I think this link should get you more info. https://www.google.com/voice

If I were to go a Google Voice number today and then call someone, would they see my cell's number or my Google Voice number on their caller ID?

I found this on a PCWorld review on GV.

PC World said:
If you start using a Google Voice number as your primary number, be prepared for the fact that regular calls from your cell phone (or any other phone) will still show up as your old number. This may create confusion, as the number you give out won't match the number from which you actually call.

Notably, the service does offer a way to make calls that will show as coming from the Google Voice number: You can go through the Web interface and type in a number, and then have Google dial you to begin the call; or you can dial your Google Voice number directly and then place the call through it. Regardless, it's an extra step that could prove to be cumbersome.

OK, perfect. I did some reading about it and got a basic understanding of its features, but this part was never really made clear to me. Another question about that, can you pick the area code of the number to fit your area?
