I never wash it that ruins them. They are only for light dusting NOT heavy dirt so there is no need to worry about marring or scratching if you use it properly. I simply shake it out a lot. I actually own two or three of them. The key to them working and lasting is to make sure you prep them properly. They must be laid out on newspaper or cardboard for at least 24 hours prior to use.

what does laying them on newspaper or cardboard do? I always kept mine in the holder.

Also it looks like Brilexsoultions.com has the cheapest shipping at 4.95.

Laying it out before using it allows the paraffin to leach out so that it does not end up on the paint. If you read the directions when you get it you will see that's what it says. I actually lave my new ones on cardboard for like 2 days flipping the area around so that the cardboard pulls all the excess paraffin off. Then after this I keep mine in it's holder as well. This is only to break it in so to speak.

Shipping is $13.99 + required $2 insurance for a total cost of $27.98.
You really have to check all the details with E-bay sellers. The great deals aren't always that great.:)

FWIW, I have several CCDs including one of the "Super Dusters". One of them is at least 14 years old and is almost totally black. Still works great.
The company does say that they can be washed with Woolite, but I don't plan on doing it.
The wood handle version is somewhat different than the plastic handle ones. The yarn is heavier and longer on the wood handled ones I have.
That isn't to say the cheaper plastic handled ones are bad, just to point out the fact that there are differences.

WOW!!! I just checked his shipping rate (if you scroll down on the page) - is everybody sitting down???
$13.99 PLUS $ 2.00 for Mandatory Insurance!! That's $11.99 for the CCD & $15.99 for Shipping (oh, and he will not "combine shipping charges" if you order something else from him like this "handy chenille wash glove on a pole" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...sPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT
Thanks, but no thanks, Joe, I think I'll keep my eyes open for a different deal, maybe from one of our sponsors??

Detail City store: $19.95
Less 10% -$1.995
Shipping $7.95
Total: $25.905
And worth every 1/2 penny.:)

Charles

Indeed!! AND you can combine shipping, get excellent customer service & support a fine sponsor, besides!! WIN-WIN!! :D

Back to 00's original question, my CCD is also pretty black & dirty looking, but it still cleans the car in a jiffy & I've never washed it. :)

As for pricing on Poorboys products - I just watch for sales!! HINT!! ;)

PS - Sorry for treading on your answer, Charles ;)

has anybody tried meguiars versa body duster?
megs has it at 17.99
AUTODETAILINGSOLUTIONS has same one for 13.39
just wondering if its any good.....no wood handle though but looks and sounds good for the money.
I have a CCD but was thinking of a back up.

Keep in mind that the differences are more than just the plastic handle.
The yarn in my wood handle CCD is about 50% longer and 50% larger in diameter than the yarn in the plastic handled ones I have seen at Wal*Mart.
My first one was $24.95 plus shipping back in the 80's when they were not readily available. It was definitely worth it to me and I still am using it.:)

Joe, you bought the right one.:)
