california desh duster smell

I just picked up the california dash duster today. And when I opened it... WHAM!! big stank hit me. I mean, wow, is it supposed to smell like cardboard and puke? I just wanted to make sure mine was normal and not some sort of freak duster.

Also, I heard that for the car duster needs to be put in newspaper for 2 days, is it the same case for the dash duster? The instructions don't indicate anything like, but I was just making sure.

thanks all for any information.

the smell is probably from the parrafin wax on the duster threads. it helps the dust to adhere to them. Leave it in the newspaper for a couple of days before using it and it will work better. Also, probably good to use on something else b4 putting on the paint because if it is anything like the ccd, it will leave red or whatever color lint on whatver you are dusting the first few times. At least thats what happened to me. IMHO....

Alright I'll do the newspaper thing, but does anybody know if for sure it's supposed to smell that way? I'd like to know so I know if i should return it or anything.

Also, it's gonna be for use on the dash only. it's much to small for the car, also I'd be to scared to use it on the paint.

thanks for the quick reply, hopefully some more come in.

yeah. it will stink. its the wax and oil on the fibers that help the dust stick. I also wondered this when I got my ccd and cdd....

alright thanks for letting me know. I just hope the stank doesn't rub off from it onto the car.

Maybe I should wash it? I just don't want to mess it before i can even use it.

Cardboard and puke!! :LOLOL :har:

wow... that's EXACTLY what I told my friend yesterday. She said it smelled like puke and i said REALLY strong carboard. So we naturally agreed that it was a mixture. very nice description. :D

i wouldnt wash it if i were you. Part of the reason it works so well is because of the chemicals on the fibers.

Yah, I was a bit weary of washing it, but it says you can on the wrapper. Also, I don't want it to rub off in the car, however, i probably won't wash it.
