California Car Duster

I use the CCD virtually every day especially before I put the cover on. I don't "clean" it. It seems to work better dirty. Don't get any marring (on my black car). Of course I have a nice Zaino base to work with.

I think having a slick coat or wax is what really helps. I barely have to touch my car with the CCD with a coat of collinite on the car.

The CCD on the other has the paraffin to bring the dust into the fibers and away from the car surface. By shaking it out, excess dirt is supposed to be dislodged. I'm not sure if this really happens as intended, but I think that is the idea behind the product. In any event, I use it on my silver truck a lot and have experienced no problems.

I use the Zwipes MF duster everyday. No scratches or swirls so far, and it does a great job on picking up the heavy dust. All remaining dust particles get a dose of Meguiar's NXT Speed Detailer.

Not sure I stay on the topic but since it is the thread that has the latest post on dusters.



I have recently bought a OXO duster and even after I used the newspaper to soak the paraffin wax overnight as well as putting it in the washer twice (I followed the instructions as not to damage the duster), I got streaking on the paint.



I didn't try to wipe the entire car. I just tried it on the front window and on the trunk using very very light pressure.



The car was actually sitting in the garage, washed last week. There only very small dusts as I didn't open the garage at all. (Planned to do detailing)



Is it normal to feel the "grease" of the paraffin wax? How to prevent streaking on the paint?

I've never had this experience unless the car was warm. I've also never washed my two dusters before use, nor done the newspaper trick (CCD and OXO). My original CCD is about 4 years old and I just washed it for the first time by hand in a light car wash solution last week. Still works great.

I generally just don't touch the paint in any way unless I'm doing my (off the deep end) wash with the foamgun/etc.



I *will* use a QD on a nasty bird bomb if I'm not gonna be washing the car soon. I kinda overkill this, using lots of QD to soften the quano and blotting it up with plush MFs and cotton wadding/swabs. Anybody in their right mind would really :rolleyes: if they saw how I go about it!



But honestly, I just don't have much trouble with stuff like this. We don't park outside much these days and I seldom get really nasty etching when I wait until the next wash. Bugs/sap/etc. I take care of with regular washes. Last summer I did have to polish out a little etching on the S8 from bug guts after a four-day trip though, so my approach can have its drawbacks. My wife's car suffers a bit from the long roadtrips she takes, but I just accept that as part of the car getting used for what we bought it for.

I went overboard when I got my CCD and let it sit for about 1 week in aged newspaper and I have never had any streaking issues. Again, make sure the car is cool. I have never washed the duster and it's about 4 years old. Still works perfectly.



Bird bombs and bugs get a careful, thorough QDing prior to CCDing if I am not washing.

I've used one on a perfect finish, and I believe it has caused some very.....very....near-microscopic scratching that can only be seen at certain angles in bright sun. I'll only use it for the lightest of dust that is "new" on the car, and not dust that has been sitting on the paint for any long period of time.
