California ARB Response for AIO Discontinuation

At this point, the VOC issues belong to CA but look for other states to adopt the same rules. It doesn't matter where it's made if it's not VOC compliant by the due date.

What online vendors do you speak of? It's not illegal to sell it in Cali until 1/1/2008.

But, note that they have no such warning on AIO - http://www.properautocare.com/kla-16.html

Maybe CMA can get the answer since they have an interview w/ the head honcho at Klasse USA - http://www.properautocare.com/inwiklusa.html

No answer..:(

I don't know why they can't ship that stuff here and all the other products that aren't compliant can still be shipped here. Meguiar's discontinued products come to mind.

Correct, and I don't see why as it's not the only VOC violator that is still on the market. #16 from Meguiar's is still sold into CA even though it's not compliant. I think Proper Auto Care is being a little too safe on that one.

Isn't there some type "grandfather clause". If products were made before a certain date and it is shown on the container, it can be used in CA?

Going by that rule, maybe for that one product, they couldn't prove the "born on date". HAHA Reminds me of Budweiser.

Right, that's what the first post in this thread says. Maybe someone who bought (last year preferably) some of the products CMA lists as banned in CA can look at their bottles for a born-on date. Perhaps they weren't aware of that rule and had to stop sales to CA?

Maybe Meguiar's, being based in CA, was more aware of the laws there and got their stuff labelled?

Sounds like the VOC law in Cali had been coming for a while, and wasn't just something pushed out last year sometime.

A friend of mine told me that since there are different requirements for different products, any multi-purpose product will have to be re-labelled for whatever use it is intended for. Thus, if a product previously claimed to clean glass, stainless steel, rubber, and plastic, it would now have to be sold as four separate products; a glass cleaner, a stainless steel cleaner, a rubber cleaner, and a plastic cleaner. Or conversely, it could only claim to clean one thing. I don't know the truth to that, but it's stupid enough to be true. A rubber cleaner might be allowed 10% VOC, a glass cleaner might be allowed 7%.

This is what happens when you turn politicians loose on common sense.
