caked on tire shine

i need some advice on an easy way to strip tires of endless amounts of tire gel...i tried to get it with a brush and soap....i caked up the bristles to the brush all the way to the handle.



is the only way i can get it off is to use elbow grease?

In addition to the brush, you need some cleaner too. You have several excellent choices:



Meguiar’s EXTRA All Surface Cleaner



GRIOT'S RUBBER CLEANER



Eimann Hi-Intensity Cleaner



Eagle One Tire Cleaner



You need to spray down the tires with one of these cleaners, let it soak for a minutes or two, then use the brush, and scrub the heck out of the sidewall. Don’t forget to rinse off the tire and the brush. If it looks like you still have too much old protectant on the tire, repeat the above.



One other thing I might add is that almost all tire protectants call for you to buff the tires down to remove any excess protectant. Depending on the design of the sidewall and the lettering, ect. on the tire, the buff down process can be a real chore.

I use simple green, spray on, let set, scrub with strong brush then rinse, may need to do this 2-3 times to get them real clean......

I forgot all about Simple Green. That works really well too.

A year...wow. That must have been some build-up.

I had the same problem, but now my brushes are shot. Will the simple green help remove the nastiness from the bristles?

I had about three years worth of tire dressing on my tires! I used a brass brush (not recommended for every wash) and some Meguiars Extra Cleaner and scrubbed each tire for about 20 minutes. I then wiped my finger across the sidewall and if my finger was dirty, I scrubbed again. Rinse the brush often!



Now I just use the Meguiar's Extra or some APC+ and a Viking Tire Brush to get the stuff off.

Id suggest simple green and a stiff bristled brush.



I also have stuff called bleche-white and it works wonders, but it is very very very acidic so dont get it on your wheels.

I have been using the new formulation of Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner. It is made to clean tires and wheels both. The stuff is strong just spray it on your tires and when you rinse you can see the dirt and old dressing etc wash away.
