Cadillac Deville restoration - no 56k

To answer your question I am using a rotary.

I use most products @ 1500 rpm
Most optimum stuff I run @1200 rpm

i have a question greg:
why do you use such a low rpm on the buffer
i personally you use like 5 to 6k when polishing/rubbing compound
then 5k with a polish or wax
then 2k to buff clean
i started off using like less than 3k on jobs......my cars turned out okay then i uped it to 5 and 6 and my results were amazing
i just did a 1996 caprice with oxidation and heavy swirls just like that cadillac
and theres no way i could do that job with 1500 rpms on a moderately heavy cutting pad with compound
may be your pads cut more than mine

You must be refering to a PC rather than a rotary are you not?

I maybe wrong here but do rotary's even run at 6K(6000) RPM's??

The caddy looks good.
Some questions for you:
1. Did you detail the interior?
2. Did you clean the engine bay?
3. What type of wool pad did you use with PG and OP?
4. Did you try an abrasive with more cutting than OP after PG such as IP?
5. Did you try using OP with other types of pads?
6. Did you try using PG with a heavy cut foam pad?

Intersting post for me. Was just reading on another forum about a member complaining that the black car that he had was looking brown at certain angles. Most of the members there said that they had not seen the color brown in their black paint. Including me. Was later informed that there is in fact a GM paint that does just what your pictures show, Greg.

Almost all "black" OEM paints have brown in them. Porsche is the only company (I am aware of) that uses a true black paint.

I didnt detail the interior, they have there crew do that for now. I also didnt do the engine bay but would like to in the future. I used a 3M 7.5" Wool pad with the compounds. I didnt use an abrasive after PG and OP because they finish in a way that po85rd just cleans up the leftovers. I used OP with polishing pad, and light cutting pad as well as the wool pad. It took alot of consideration before I went with the wool. The powergloss was used alot with the light cut foam pad and then the wool pad. I dont have a heavy cut foam pad yet.

eh its nothing special. Its nice to have heat and water though. If it had better lighting I would be in heaven!

A garage with heat and water--would be heaven...heck you can always hook up a bright halogen light for short periods of time..
