Bwahahahahahahahahahahah

They`re actually paid 30k for going to school, and have free tuition.....

Do you really need an answer?

its better than that even. Free tuition worth $40k. Paying for that yourself with after tax money would take about $60k of income. Then add the $30k stipend, so we are at $90k of value. Plus free health care, which I`ll armchair estimate at being worth $500 a month for a single person (add another grand for a small family), and we are at about $96k of value given each year to these snowflakes by the institution they are protesting against. I think the national average family income is less than $50k per year in this country. sad that victim status has now become an aspiration, especially among these well educated liberal elites.

They are doing graduate work on behalf of the University and going to school. So it is not like it free money. That article sucked like all FOX NEWS articles, just trying to appeal to your emotions. Doesn`t even bother to mention what they are striking about.

It`s a "strike", without the strike.

Hahahahaha

Wonder if they`ll get a participation trophy (shaped like a pizza)

I`m not a fox news fan by any means but the article does mention that they are striking for better union benefits. It doesn`t go into great detail of what these union benefits are but it does state what they are striking about.

Maybe there is a better way of going about it then a "hunger" strike. Like sitting down and having a conversation but this article presents a lot more information.

Yale Grad Students Conduct Hunger Strike In Between Meals | NewBostonPost

Note they only spend 14% of their time teaching and researching. So 30K a year for spending 14% of your time teaching and doing research and getting your tuition paid plus free health care? Come on now.

Well, that`s one OPINION ; )

As somebody who was [quite involved in higher education], I can say that I simply don`t know enough about the situation (and can`t seem to find proper info given the limited time/effort I`m willing to invest) that`s going on there to form a meaningful opinon, though I do find it a *little* odd that they insist on such demands and *especially* that they aren`t too busy to spend time on this. Sure, I knee-jerk towards "what a bunch of spoiled twits" but as an ignorant outsider reading biased "reportage", what do I know and why would I care?

Heh heh, used to be that grad students/assistants/etc. were all so busy that they couldn`t spare a few minutes for *anything*...

I do, however, question whether there`s anything "elite" about the people involved. Sure wish that word weren`t used as a pejorative...I can remember when "elite" was something one aspired to be. [Heck], I`m an "elite" in a few areas and I`m [darn] proud of it. I see very few instances of folks who are both "Liberal" and "elites", and I don`t think those whining people qualify as the latter.

And yeah...I`m with DBAILEY when it comes to "news" articles that are so obviously intended to convey a certain point of view/appeal to the reader`s emotions (rather than merely *informing* in an objective manner and letting the reader make up his own mind), and when it`s done so blatantly I consider it insulting to the reader`s intelligence. The kind of insult that people who consider themselves "elites" might feel entitled to engage in ;) E.g., when they "report" that Yale says "they spend 14% of their time teaching during training", that tells me *NOTHING* of any value whatsoever regarding the situation. It`s simply too vague and without context to have informative meaning and is clearly only mentioned in an attempt to influence my interpretation; I`m getting played for a sucker....which I`m not. Heh heh, and I..who have nothing to do with Yale, am being played by a media outlet that has....nothing to do with Yale.

OK, ok...end of rant.

[Darn] it, I know better than to engage in toxic topics like this Yale thing...

.. I don`t think those whining people qualify as [elites]...

Not "elite" huh? Try getting admitted to an Ivy League Grad School program....shame on me :o Still think they`re twits though.

To me, i don`t care what they are "protesting".
A half hearted protest at that. So who cares since they don`t even have the stones to show they care....

WOW

Ronkh- IMO none of us who are outside of the situation has much reason to care period. Though there is that "future leaders of the Free World" aspect... I mean, gee, plenty of Yale grads from an earlier generation were really impressive people (don`t know any recent ones).
