As somebody who was [quite involved in higher education], I can say that I simply don`t know enough about the situation (and can`t seem to find proper info given the limited time/effort I`m willing to invest) that`s going on there to form a meaningful opinon, though I do find it a *little* odd that they insist on such demands and *especially* that they aren`t too busy to spend time on this. Sure, I knee-jerk towards "what a bunch of spoiled twits" but as an ignorant outsider reading biased "reportage", what do I know and why would I care?
Heh heh, used to be that grad students/assistants/etc. were all so busy that they couldn`t spare a few minutes for *anything*...
I do, however, question whether there`s anything "elite" about the people involved. Sure wish that word weren`t used as a pejorative...I can remember when "elite" was something one aspired to be. [Heck], I`m an "elite" in a few areas and I`m [darn] proud of it. I see very few instances of folks who are both "Liberal" and "elites", and I don`t think those whining people qualify as the latter.
And yeah...I`m with DBAILEY when it comes to "news" articles that are so obviously intended to convey a certain point of view/appeal to the reader`s emotions (rather than merely *informing* in an objective manner and letting the reader make up his own mind), and when it`s done so blatantly I consider it insulting to the reader`s intelligence. The kind of insult that people who consider themselves "elites" might feel entitled to engage in

E.g., when they "report" that Yale says "they spend 14% of their time teaching during training", that tells me *NOTHING* of any value whatsoever regarding the situation. It`s simply too vague and without context to have informative meaning and is clearly only mentioned in an attempt to influence my interpretation; I`m getting played for a sucker....which I`m not. Heh heh, and I..who have nothing to do with Yale, am being played by a media outlet that has....nothing to do with Yale.
OK, ok...end of rant.
