Buying a Loaner

I bought a Thunderbird that was a Hertz car and it was a very nice little car for a whole lot of miles. Until the head gasket went, but then almost all of them did that..

I bought my Magnum RT new, and I've driven it like I stole it, pretty much every time I take it out and almost 4 years later it's still fine. Break-in isn't a big factor these days, in my opinion.

The biggest issues would be the crashing into things I'd think.

What's wrong with a black car? ;)

I bought mine from a place that just sells cars that are just coming off leases that is all they sell and I've had it for 3 1/2 years with no problems as of yet,as far as loaners as long as its serviced and certified go for it.

I bought my 1998 Acura 3.0CL in 2001 off of lease it had 27,000 miles on it (94,000 miles on the clock, today). I've been a Honda fan all my life, well most japanese cars in general. I have had no trouble out of my Acura and i love to detail it, it's rare, and just a joy to drive. I do agree with the other posts about people "dogging" loaner cars. I had a 2004 TL and a 2007 Acura TSX loaner on two saturday visits for a couple recalls (which i was contacted by my service consultant about) perfomances ( I have a really cool homeboy who is a service consultant at the Acura dealership i visit, but Acura is serious about customer satisfaction, and i love that about them.) and i'll have a little fun in them, but i don't dog them. Also, with a loaner people put the lowest quality grade ( the cheapest no matter whose selling it) gasoline in them as possible to cut down on the cost to themselves. I have seen first hand, when a repair to a vehicle that is off warranty is needed, and the customer gets a loaner, they always take their frustration out on the loaner. I always laugh when i leave the dealer and see all of the leased Acura's needing to be detailed, and when i pull in they see the benefits of caring about your vehicle enough to detail it with the best products on the planet. :waxing:

the fact that most engine/trans damage comes from overheating, which is not so easy to do today, especially if the car is at the dealer often where it can have fluid levels checked (presuming the lot jockeys actually do that).

Don't forget about hammering the car when it is cold. Add me to the list of people that love to have fun with loaners....

To everyone saying how they treat loaner bad - Why? You are given a car when yours is down and that is how you treat a courtesy? Even if just for maintance you still take advantage? Im not saying I dont take the biggest car I can find cause I need to move some things everyone once in awhile but I sure as hell do not treat any differently then my own vehicle. I have even washed loaners cause they got dirty while I had them. Cause everytime I pick up my car its clean too. And the dealers respect that and its never a problem when I need a car.

Sorry for the rant.

NRZ- Note that some *Autopians* beat on loaners (sorta surprised me...). If people who are as into cars as we are do it, just imagine what joe-average might do, especially when he's ticked off about his car needing serviced.

I too take nice care of loaners (and rentals), even give some of 'em a really nice detail. But I sincerely doubt that most people using them treat them well (for one reason or another). If nothing else, every loaner seems to be *really* beat, including really nice new-model-year ones from my Audi dealer (who readily admits that customers just don't take good care of 'em).

 If a dealer cleaned my car that would be a good reason to beat on the loaner.
