I'm a graphic artist that is stuck in a job that I don't like anymore. The place I work for treats me like crap and I go above and beyond for them. I've applied to 16 other jobs with no reponse! I like what I do, but in this field is hard to find a job...and I don't want to start at the bottom again...unless its working for myself! .Then I got to thinking...I make alot of money detailing a car a weekend. I've also been thinking about going to a PDR class for a week, then opening a detail/PDR place. I'd start mobile first, then hopefully need a small shop. Can any shop owners shed a little light on starting a business in this industy?

My major in college was multimedia design. About 6 months before I graduated college I started looking for jobs that paid decent. I found that I can make $10 an hour designing t-shirts or make $50k a year working for a big company (but you have to know someone) or I could freelance at $30 an hour but it would take time to build my clientel. I decided hell with the design industry, a few years later I'm the Director of New Student Enrollment for a university.

I completely understand what you're talking about. Just know that it will take time to build your clientel but after about a year, you'll probably be pretty established. I'm sure you will be able to make some bad *** business cards and marketing products.

I've been doing this for 5 years now. I don't like the place I work at...but I make decent money. I'd rather make a little less money and like where I work!
