ShineTyme Detailing
This querstion is for all of you out there who do work at business complexes. This is where I get most of my steady business. The problem i have is with one of the buildings i just started going to. Usually ( at previous places) word has spread pretty quickly about me being there at a set time every week and it has been working out very nicely. This new place Im at is not picking up so fast and I think it has something to do with the fact that most people do not see me because of the size of the complex.. Any sugestions on how to let people know that Im there?? I thought about seting something up where I have an email sent out every morning and have people just bring their keys the the receptionist and fill out a wash form. I also wanted to offer a discount for filling out a survey, so If anybody out there has any advice about this type of work and would like to share some tips on how to make it operate smoothly to maximize work, please let me know. thanks

I've heard of people setting up a sign in front of the houde where they are detailing to let people know that are driving by. Maybe a eye catching sign set up somewhere could help you . Good idea about the e-mail . hopefully the secretary passes it on instead of deleting it or forgetting to tell everyone in the office. Good Luck .

Whats on your survey if you don't mind telling?

an idea that we are doing at the dealership i work at is making a brouchure explaing the different detail packages we offer, with descriptions and color pictures. i go around to local businesses and talk to the manager and have them hang it in their lunch room so all employees can see it. we offer a 10% discount for any employee from the palces we hand out brochures to. a small ad in the local paper moght not hurt either

Find the head receptionist/secretary/administrative assistant and ask this person to help you get the program started. They typiclly know everyone and have a email distribution list of the associates. This can be a huge benefit to you as well the people working there because they can have their cars professonally detailed/washed while they're at work and it's $$ for you. I also do a lot of work in office parks and executive leases and I typically deal with the receptionist or secretary. It usually works well and it's pretty consistent as I get many of the same customers from week to week.

The only problem I have with this set up is that I don't always get to speak with the customer to explain the services provided and get them rebooked for the next appointment.

Good luck...

maybe try putting a biz card on each of the cars next to one you are washing/detailing. Put in between rubber weather stripping on drivers door. Hell, maybe put biz cards on a few other cars as well.
An email notice would be a huge help. Maybe put a notice up in the common areas of the business. Does your vehicle have signage on it? That would help.
Just a few quick thoughts.

Has anyone had any success doing this?

Not as much as i thought I would get. Out of maybe 150 cards that i have done this with, I've gotten three jobs. I know, 3 out of 150+ is better than nothing but still....

I never reply to any business that places anything on my car. I don't want anyone touching my car when I'm not around. This is my personal opinion but as a detailers most of us are very particular and anal about our cars so we don't want people around our cars.

I had a little bit of daylight left two weks ago, and stopped off at Vons right next to our subdivision. I put out about 25 cards in about 10 minutes ( I only put them on the Mercedes, BMW's and the Jags) and before I got to my dreiveway I got a call to come over right now and do a nice brand new 530 Mercedes and yesterday I went back to do it for the second time and also got to do the wifes brand new never been washed Lexus SUV. A quick $70 bucks for under 2 hours, a regular customer with two beautiful brand new cars.

I will always pass out cards if I NEED more work!!! :beer

Hey Ringo,
I hear what you're saying, I don't care much for that either, but my feelings are mostly towards bogus junk flyers hammered out in a parking lot to everyone. A few targeted cards is different...a bit more personal and less like junk.

But logic tells me that the people who would toss your card no matter what if placed on their car due to territorial/peculiar/anal-ness issues etc....are probably the very same people who wouldn't even think of having someone detail their car for them anyway. So, really nothing to loose but a few cards.

That is mostly true. But if people are tossing your cards onto the ground, you do stand the slight chance of being nabbed for littering. I know someone it has happend to!

I used to place cards on peoples dirty cars when I first started. I did it mostly to compete with the leading mobile detailer in my area who also markets by placing cards on cars. But I found that the return on that was something like 300-500 cards placed to 1 booked detail. After factoring in the time I spent placing those cards, I realized it was just not a wise use of my time. The money to print up a 1000 cards could be used to buy a few well placed ads.

But to this day, if I see a really nice car that is cruddy, I will still hand out my card. But I try to hand it directly to the owner.

SC~
