Saturday night we were burglerized and they pulled a vehicle in the garage next to my freshly detailed White Mustang Cobra. During the process of removing the TV's, VCR's, DVD player, Stereo, jewelry and other assorted items from our house they seemed to use the roof of my car as a staging ground.
In the process they scratched up the paint on the entire A-piller and it looks like when they removed something heavy from the roof they dragged it scrapping off a substantial amount of the clear coat.
I know I could polish out the scratches on the roof and actually make them unnoticable to non-autopian types, but I would be able to see them and it would leave little or no clear coat in a 1 sq. ft. section of the roof. The A-pillers must be painted because they are a plastic material and the paint is removed all the way to the dark brown/black plastic.
I know when my insurance company looks at the car they are going to say the roof is fine and can simply be buffed out. My question is, how thick is the factory clear coat, and what can i compare it to (like a piece of paper) to show the ins. crooks that the roof MUST be repainted along with the A-piller? Oh, I forgot they also left 2 primer deep chips in the driver side door.
All I gotta say is I wish I would have been home when they did it. They would have been taken care of permanently. :doh :doh
