Burglers scratched up my car!

Saturday night we were burglerized and they pulled a vehicle in the garage next to my freshly detailed White Mustang Cobra. During the process of removing the TV's, VCR's, DVD player, Stereo, jewelry and other assorted items from our house they seemed to use the roof of my car as a staging ground. In the process they scratched up the paint on the entire A-piller and it looks like when they removed something heavy from the roof they dragged it scrapping off a substantial amount of the clear coat.

I know I could polish out the scratches on the roof and actually make them unnoticable to non-autopian types, but I would be able to see them and it would leave little or no clear coat in a 1 sq. ft. section of the roof. The A-pillers must be painted because they are a plastic material and the paint is removed all the way to the dark brown/black plastic.

I know when my insurance company looks at the car they are going to say the roof is fine and can simply be buffed out. My question is, how thick is the factory clear coat, and what can i compare it to (like a piece of paper) to show the ins. crooks that the roof MUST be repainted along with the A-piller? Oh, I forgot they also left 2 primer deep chips in the driver side door.

All I gotta say is I wish I would have been home when they did it. They would have been taken care of permanently. :doh :doh

All ford paint sucks. My family has 4 ford vehicles right now and the paint quality is baddd. My truck has orange peel ou the @.. adn on the bottom of the passenger door it was dry sprayed (not right mixture of paint so it turned out rough) and in a few other spots it is liek this. My roof ahs a crack in it (common with the f150's drain channels). Both other trtucks we have have orange peel. The Mustang doedsn't, but it scratches easily. You bump it, it scratcehs. You bump my truck, it doesn't scratch.

So, Ford paint Quality sucks.

In 04 When I go for the new stang I am not going to take delivery unless the pint is flawless. outside and in.

I've got some orange peel on the lower door, but other than that the paint looks good. I've spent hours making it look non-factory. I just wonder how think the clear is so wen the ins. adjustercomes I will be able to backup my claim that the roof needs repaints as opposed to simply buffing the scratches out.

Samiam, do you have the dreded cracks in the doors too? My dad has a 97 F-250 (3/4 ton truck in F-150 styling) and it doesnt have the roof cracks, but has big time cracks in the doors by the windows, both sides!

Anyways, I would make sure they repaint the whole roof and a "A" pillar. KSCobra, otherwise you will just have more problems down the road!
