(move where ever was not sure where to put)

A buddy of mine hit some ice this morning and went off into the ditch. I looked around all the gaps in the front and they seem to be ok so I dont think he screwed up the hood or front fenders. I dont know a lot about body work and just wanted to get your guys thoughts and ideas on what to do next and maybe how much it would cost to fix.

There is the problem he needs some new tires.

The last two shots are what I think might cost some $. It broke off some of the front plastic structure. I would just push it all back together but some of the plastic tabs inside the bumper look broken. Thanks for the help guys!!!

a new bumper atleast, hard to tell without pulling off the bumper to see if there is anything else broken

BTW tell him to get new tires there are bald :bolt

Bumper cover, at a minimum

That passenger side headlight looks tweaked, but can't be sure

The fact that the support near the headlight and grill is busted tells me that there could be some other damage not visible from the photos.

If you had a heat welder you weld those tabs back on, possibly. Ive done it before on interior panels with broken snap tabs, but who knows about exterior stuff in a load bearing situation. So, as everyone else said, bumper...

Ditto on the "baldini's".'

PS Nice PJ's ;)

lol I was wondering if anyone would notice those. Nothing like having your friend knock on the door when you are sleeping needing to get his car fixed.

I too was worried about more damage underneath. So what are we figuring? 300-400 bumper, paint 300ish, bracket thing 200 then labor. I was guessing $1200-2000 (completely random based on my little knowledge. And thats not including new tires.

Second picture is that a crack on the bumper cover or a reflection, if so new cover with paint around $500, if its not a crack then you mite be able to salvage the cover, theres a plastic clip thats not part of the bumper its broke off on pictures 5 and 6 needs that hidden plastic part, need to remove the cover, its not that hard to do. There is probably very little damage under the cover, hard to tell without a front view to see if the head lights are aligned.

if you just want to get it looking as good as it can get in its current condition.

Pick up some black zip ties and break out the drill. And anyplace the wont be visible on the out side, drill a hole on one side of the broken piece and on the other side and zip time them closed. like stitches...

So you can worry about getting a new bumper + paint in the spring.

Just little update. He came and picked up his car this morning and took it to the Ford dealership. The estimated $1200ish for a new bumper and all. He the drove it back to my house and I took a look underneath. That $1200 estimate just went up a lot I'm thinking.

Just to give you an idea of how out of wack that part of the frame is. #1 should line up with #2.

Just on a side note. I told them the tires needed replaced. "but we just did that 17,000 ago" I look at the treadwear and its 220. He thought that they would last longer or something.

Thanks for the update, shame about the car

Yeah, that underneath makes more sense with how the headlight area looked.

Those tires probably grip like crazy in the summer on dry pavement, but not so hot otherwise. 17,000 seems decent for 220 treadwear and rounded front edges. I wouldn't be afraid of them on dry pavement if they're not howling or hopping.

he took it to the dealer.....why??????????

take it to a body shop...they will fix it right...the dealer will send it to their people who will make it "LOOK" right

but it should be 500 bucks = insurance...thats why you have paid it all along....that is if its more than you want to pay now...you can ask them how much your rates will go up if you claim it....

I didnt know you can weld plastic back. amazing.

That broken plastic referenced is part of the upper core surround. The new pics of the underside is the actual core support and will need to be replaced and it may need to sit on a frame machine to get everything back in alignment. I'd estimate approximately $2-3K total. Also, inform your friend to take it to a real body shop and not the dealership.
