Bugs Bugs Bugs

Well I live in Tx and drove from Dallas to the Austin area. This time of year is the onset of bugs flying everywhere including into the front of my truck to commit suicide.

I literally had dozens of dead bugs and bug parts on my truck. :shocked

So I decided to wash the truck and use a piece of clay bar to clean off the bugs..

Was this wrong?

Dana

Yes, it was horribly wrong and you will need to repaint the Lightning within days, if now hours.

j/k :lol

I've done the same when the bugs are particularly nasty and deeply imbedded in the paint. I keep on old clay bar just for that purpose because it has taken on....well, let's call it an 'odor' and leave it at that!

Dont do that to an old man like me.....

he he

I had used that piece of clay a couple of times for some very small places but it has its own place in my trashcan now... this is why I dislike driving after dark in the Hill Country this time of year.. darned bugs... and I just got back from there today and have to go again this weekend.. just havent got myself to try the PAM spray oil method on the front end.. somehow the greasiness of it all kinda turns my stomach..

Thanks Dana

Dana, consider buying some bug juice remover. TOL sells some made by Hi Temp and it works great. Nasty bug season is coming to Georgia and I'm constantly reaching for the Hi Temp. Porsche Tequipment makes it too - CMA carries it.

The "snowbird" parents of one of the firefighters I work with just drove up from Florida for the spring/summer/fall season. They have a white Toyota Avalon...it arrived with a "bug brown/black" front end

Their son, who is a fellow clean car fanatic, made it look like new :bigups

Consider getting a gallon of Pro's Bug Guard. I use it for all my trips and it helps a little to get the bugs off. It is also suppose to neutralize the acid in their body.

Also check out Valugard's Omni All Purpose Cleaner. It is pretty mild stuff but the one thing it works great on is cleaning bugs! I soak the bugs with this stuff and then clean two wheels/tires, I then soak the front of the vehicle again and clean the other two wheels/tires. I then spray the vehicle down with water, spray the front again with this stuff, and start washing the vehicle. Go from roof, to hood, and then do the front of the vehicle. By this time the bugs are really soft and come off really easily. No need for clay and it only adds a minute or two to your wash.

Don't use PAM.

I did, tried a small spot and drove around, came home and bugs wiped right off.

Than did the whole front, painted grill ect. drove around happy for several days knowing the bugs would wipe right off.

Not so, they baked on in the hot sun and mixed with the pam and turned to kind of black cement, even had to take the grill off to get it clean, it was awful.

I like the Porsche Tequipment cleaner. I also like the yellow bug sponge that CMA sells, although if you buy the Porsche Tequipment it comes with a nifty sponge too.
