Buffing techniques

Well, I started my detail on my Grand Prix today, and couldn't get done because I found out I had to go out for supper with my family tonight. I washed, clayed and buffed out the roof, hood, and front end with 1ZPP. I was just wondering If I could just run over the car with my CCD to get off the light amount of dust on it in the morning. It is sitting in my shop with the door closed. Also, is there any technique that you could help with applying the 1zPP with a orange pad on my PC. I applied the product in 3 ft sections and worked in for around 1 min in each section. However, under my halogen lights, I can still see some slight cobwebbing. Am I applying the product wrong, or will this disappear with the 1zMPP. I also have the same problem with waterspots on the roof. Please help! Thanks.

What pad did you use to apply teh 1ZPP? Maybe try to apply it using a cutting pad. On the application, try to use a little amount of pressure to help the pad cut. What speed were you using? Higher speed = more cut. if that doesnt work you'll probably have to up the anty to the yellow pad and 1z UPP.

also maybe try to work it in for a lil longer than 1 minute. I dont think 1 minute would be enough time for the abrasives to work fully.

Hi dpreuss,

I think you will need to spend more than 1 minute in each section to battle the light swirls with a PC. And apply moderate pressure on the PC and I don't mean 10 lbs of pressure. :D

Theoretically...yes

Do I?...not a chance...

dpreuss - To wash or not depends on how clean things stay inside your garage. I don't usually need to wash, but that's just *my* garage. You could try going over the car very carefully with a MF and something like Meg's #34.

I too think you need to:

- Use a cutting pad with the PP for the worst marring

- Use a white polishing pad for the final passes

- Run the PC on 6

- Go slowly, working each section until it's as good as it's gonna get, *much* longer than a minute per section, before switching to MP

- Be willing to work a section multiple times; it's gonna take a lot more than one pass for most marring. Polishing a car by PC can take a very long time

- Be willing to step up to Ultra/Extra Polish with a cutting pad

Hey guys, turns out I needed to go to the yellow (cutting) pad and UPP to get out all of the marring, looks great though. Didn't quite get finished before i had to go out tonight, gonna be on my third day now:rolleyes: . I have been follow up the yellow pad/UPP combo with PP and the orange (mulit-purpose) pad. I was just wondering if I needed to go with PP and the white pad(finishing pad), or if I could just go to the MPP and the white pad. Any suggestions? Thanks.
