buffing swirls

Tried a megs red pad with a rotary for the first time and had a pretty good amount of buffing swirls :( . I hadnt had this problem with the yellow pads though. Is this norm or am I doing something wrong. I used it with #84. :confused:
 
hummmmmm, maybe too fast? What rotary and what speed were you at? Maybe using a final polish on a PC after 84 will do the trick. Good luck!
 
The red pad is really aggressive - you should only use that if the yellow one will not do the job for you and if you do use it, expect hazing and follow up with a less aggressive and the yellow.
 
I was using a Dewalt 849 and a speed of 1600. I was trying to get some scratches and light sanding marks out using # 84. Of course I followed with lesser aggressive product and got the swirls out but didnt know if this was normal for the red pad on a rotary.
 
Red pad at 1600 is pretty aggressive.....step it down to the yellow pad with 84 again at 1200-1300, then evaluate and let us know how it turned out. Good luck!
 
Worked out pretty good but still slightly noticable. I understand a scratch car only be taken out depending how deep it is. Like always thanks for the help.

#84 = One of Meg's most abrasive compunds
Add in a rotary and you have all the ingredients for major damage.

I would expect some swirls from the #84 .. it is a pretty aggressive compound.
Maybe you didn't work the product enough so the abrasives could break down.
After the #84 I would follow up with DACP or #82 SFP or better yet Poorboys SSR2 ... any of these on a red or yellow pad ... SSR2 on a Meguiars red pad does amazing work and leaves a nice shine.
Remember when you start out agressive, you need to step down to a less abrasive product to restore shine and remove any marring from the previous product

Thats what I was afraid of. :( Luckily I have pretty good experience with a rotary and polishing pads and it didnt turn out that bad and I was able to get the swirls out in steps. Thats why I come here, to get advice and yall always follow through to help me out. Thats why DC rocks hard :band :beer
