Budget Minded Lotus Wet Sanding

We had a customer who was very budget minded approach us about doing some wet sanding for him. He told us he painted his Lotus Elise by himself in his shop and needed help smoothing out the paint and sanding out the imperfections. Usually this kind of situation would have sent us running for the hill especially when his budget would only allow for about 10 hours worht of work. We are breaking the work into two sessions, the first is the wet sand and rough buff tomorrow will be final cut and polish and wax.

SESSION 1

Jason and Brian devised a plan and the owner helped by removing the hood, bonnet, tail lights and other trim to allow unfettered access to the car.

Used 3M 1000 grit, Mirka 1500 and 2000 Grit, Meg's 105 and 205. Used ChemGuys Hexlogic pads and Shurbuff pads with DA, Rotory and Dynabrade

So from 8:00am until 5:00pm here are the results, more pictures after SESSION 2 tomorrow:

ten total hours... ;)

It's a good project, the paint was actually done very well for a home job and while its a ton of work, the shop was a little thin yesterday so it was good timing.

Cheap and Lotus in the same thread - the owner should loose rights to it (and send it to me). Especially after the great job you did on it.

so I got the question wrong it was 20 total hours. 10 hours times two guys... ;)

Yeah...that sounds better. Was going to say...dam you guys were working fast as hell. But yeah...cheap lotus owner lol. Great job. Cant wait too see what the final results are.

20 total hours isn't really so outrageous for a project like that if the client wasn't after absolute perfection; it's looking good so far!

Given the origin of the paintjob, hopefully you guys are keeping track of it with a PTG.... not having that would make me nervous.
